Hooked a cormarant when trolling offshore in the Keys.  Release was hectic but worked.

Huge bullfrog on a topwater frog in Oklahoma.

Baby alligator in the Everglades. Another hectic release, especially with momma making a lot of noise in the cattails.

Some type of women's clothing in Bulgaria.  Another release. lol

Four young of the year seagulls.  Two on spinning gear on floating Rapala minnows and two on small Crease flies.  A rod and reel, several lures and rigs, a rock, a 12 foot piece of sunken timber.  A co-worker who was standing behind me while I was fly fishing in Guam.  Biggest thing I've caught so far.

When I was a kid hooked a rock with a crankbait just off the bank, made a swirls when I hooked it and fought it all the way to the boat thinking it was a big one. Also, one night on Bull Shoals I thought I threw my jig on the bank, went to jerk it into the water an my line starts going sideways, set the hook a couple times and a grey heron lands on the water and starts going crazy. It got loose pretty quick. Other stuff similar to what you guys have caught but those 2 are the most memorable.

My friend caught a cowboy boot once. I told him “ Quick, throw back there again, and maybe you’ll catch the other one”? He wasnt amused...

A full half gallon jug of cranberry juice with a crankbait.  I was on an Ozark stream that gets quite a bit of recreational float traffic and I guess it fell off a canoe or raft in water that was deeper than they wished to dive down to get it.  The water where I caught it was extremely clear and when I got it about 15' from my kayak I could tell what it was.  I thought I had a big rock snagged but then I saw the red liquid in a clear jug with a white cap.  The crank bait hooked right under the cap and into the tamper proof ring.

This year a bat (tangled in my line catfishing), a zebco push button combo, and almost got a Blue Herron on a frog and 65lb. braid. I was fishing a grass choked farm pond and that rascal flew in out of nowhere swooping down to eat my frog. Realizing there isn't a fast enough gear ratio made to outrun him, I commenced to hollering and making as much commotion as possible. About 3ft away from from choking down that frog he/she got the message and veered away.

That was a catch and release I'm thrilled to have avoided.

A few years ago in the fall I was fishing a bluegill color DT-6 from the bank, so it would hit bottom midway through the retrieve. I stopped feeling the DT-6 wiggle and got a little resistance, figured it must have been dying grass. As it got closer to the bank it looked like a tube shaped plastic bag, acting like a drift sock on the lure. Except it wasn't a plastic bag. I guess someone had fun there in the summer when the water level was lower, because I hooked a prophylactic.

That DT-6 was promptly thanked for its service and retired, as was at least 10 feet of line.

Beaver that I hooked in the side with a crankbait.

Funniest was the 3 piece folding lawn chair I thought was the new state record. I did release it back in its natural habitat of a dock nearby.

Caught a dog once.  Was fly fishing an urban creek and some lady let her dog loose in the water.  I was euronymphing with a sighter and I think the dog saw that thinking it was a stick. He grabbed the sighter and the line pulled straight up hooking him in the lip with my nymph.  Now the dog is freaking out.  He's a dog in the water.  I'm a man in the water.  No way I'm gonna catch him, so thankfully I had the common sense to zip a **** load of line off my reel.  He runs up to his owner, some lady who threw a ball in the water then sat down on the bank talking to her friend not paying attention to her dog, and the lady yanks the hook straight at her.  You know...The way hooks are designed to hold on?  I got to them finally and started petting the dog.  When things settled a little, I just reached over and pulled the hook out. Craziest thing was that it was barbless.  If I could keep fish on that thing as well as I hooked that dog, the US would have a gold medal already...

I've heard about those dog days.

Caught a big bullfrog on my frog. A couple of snappers on a wacky, Half a dozen rod and reels. Had an osprey repeatedly try for my big whopper plopper ( had to jerk it away at the last second.

Soft shell turtle, about 15 lbs. Boot, chair, rods and reels.  I saved the best for last. I was night fishing with a 1/2 oz spinner bait when I got a thump. I set the hook and reeled in what I thought was a log until the hook fell out. Went back the next day did the same cast caught a dead spike. Looked like it had been dead for 2-3 weeks. (If you don't know what a spike is) We use the term “spike” for any deer at least a year old that has two hardened antlers that do not branch or fork.
