The dreaded A-Rig

I have to nut up and commit to the A-Rig this fall. Does everyone throw the ole Yum-brella Flash Mob Jr or is there a better flying chandelier? Any other pointers would be helpful.  Thanks yall.

I make mine so they vary.  I don’t usually use them until December or later.

Here are a couple of lure suggestions:

Rage Menace on the outside with 2/0 EWG hooks and 1/8 ounce bullet weights

Rage Swimmer for the center with a 1/4 ounce weighted hook

 

Unique center lure alternative: 1/2 ounce Johnson Silver Minnow

Check out Picasso's offerings.  They have a bunch of different variations and their basic ones are pretty cheap and decent quality.

They have one I still use that uses a light resin head.  More finesse-ey than most Umbrella Rigs.

I use mostly silver willows but also have some with chartreuse, orange and red Colorado blades.

My buddy makes these for Bama Rig heads and they are the best thing I've found when wanting one for shallower water or throwing them into schooling fish. They weigh nearly nothing.

I've fished them with blades and without.  I've tossed both the Yum 3 wire rig and the Flash Mob.  Since here in CA, we can only have 3 hooks on it, on the Flash Mob I put 2 dummy baits on the top wires.  I will say I prefer the 3 Wire model over the Flash Mob.  The Flash Mob gets tiring after awhile of winding it in as there is so much resistance as it moves through the water.  I can't say that I've noticed a difference between catching fish between the 2 rigs.  My buddy and I tried to see if it helped where one person would toss a rig with the blades and the other without.  We didn't notice the difference so that's another reason why I've stuck with not having blades.  The only time I use the Flash Mob now is trolling for stripers and I only have 1 bait on the center wire.

Lures like that not allowed on the Tidal Potomac, so it is old school lizard on a hook for me, but it still works.

I've been throwing a Flashmob Jr a bit for the last few years.  One main concern I always have is if it is running strait.

I had all 1/8oz heads on it but recently switched to 3/8th on the bottom two and middle wire to try to keep it more straight.  I think that might be helping but I have to wind it a lot faster now to keep it up in the water column.  

 

Curious if you all put any heavier heads on the bottom two or middle wire to help keep it straight?

I only use 1/8 on my normal sized rigs, and 1/16 on smaller, finesse sized rigs.  Might try messing with the wires a bit.

We are allowed to use 3 hooks in Tennessee but I hate throwing that mess
