Eddie101 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Obviously, I use a hook keeper for hooks, but where do you place your dropshot weight? It's constantly dangling, and tangles with other rods which drives me nuts. I tried elec tape, but it doesn't stay on for long. Is there a better option? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 10, 2020 Super User Posted September 10, 2020 I don't put the weight on until I'm ready to rig/cast it. The loose line can just dangle...without the weight on it, it's not a big issue. 2 Quote
5/0 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 They have Velcro and other elastic rings that you put on the handle to secure the weight. Check for them online. 1 Quote

5/0 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Hair tie is a great idea! Though of rubber bands, zip ties, and twist locks; and never thought of the obvious! No more buying weight keepers for me! Thanks! Quote
Mr.C in Texas Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 The Fuji hook keeper works perfectly. I just picked up a pair of Exprides and added the fuji hook keepers. I didn't know the hook keeper folds down to hold the line next to your drop shot weight. 1 Quote

When transporting or stowing the rod I bury the hook point in the nose of the bait and take a couple of twists of the line around a guide. Reduces tangling. 2 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted September 10, 2020 Super User Posted September 10, 2020 Since I Texas rig my dropshot baits, when I stow, I wrap the line and weight around the spinning reel handle and cross it over 1 time. I then spin the rod and wrap the line like normal. The bait and hook lay tight to the rod. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted September 10, 2020 Super User Posted September 10, 2020 I just use a rubber band. They’re inexpensive and plentiful ? 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted September 10, 2020 Super User Posted September 10, 2020 I've been dropping the weight through 1 of the eyes that fit the tightest and reel up just enough slack. I do however like the hair tie idea. Quote

Way north bass guy Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Grab a few big elastic bands off your broccoli brought home from the grocery store, they work great to hold the weight. When I’m fishing it, I just roll the elastic down toward the end of the rod splits out of the way. 2 Quote
clh121787 Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 If my rod doesnt have an open ended hook keeper I put the weight jammed between the drag star and the reel frame . Let the hook lay where it lays. I used to keep a plastic worm burying the point but most plastics have impregnated salt. And salt oxidizes hooks. Not good. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 11, 2020 Super User Posted September 11, 2020 If the rod has a bookkeeper, the hook goes there and I secure the weight to the rod handle with some kind of hair tie or small strip of Velcro. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 11, 2020 Super User Posted September 11, 2020 I hook the weight on the anti-reverse (back reel) switch. Quote
shimanoangler Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 I find the Cal Coast Cali Clip to be THE BEST drop shot keeper available. It has both a hook keeper and a drop shot weight keeper depending on how you store your rods when not in use. You can take your weight off, which works, but I am too lazy to do that, so I slide the line into the weight keeper and wella, everything stored and packaged up nice and neat. You can find these on TW and they are not very expensive and work really well. 1 1 Quote

If you have any women in the house, hair ties are WAY more plentiful, lol. I usually find them near the shower, or on the bedroom doorknob. I've use rubber bands, but after about a week in the sun, they are done. A nice hairband will last you a season or more. 1 Quote
