I want to get an Aldebaran 51 reel but have found some deals on an Aldebaran 31. From everything I read, a 31 is supposed to hold less line but I can't figure out how much less.

Aldebaran 51 specs: mono lb/capacity 8/85 10/75 12/65  (supposed to be a 9.3 cubic cm spool)

Aldebaran 31 specs: mono lb/capacity 8/100 10/90 12/65 (supposed to be a 6.3 cubic cm spool)

A.) why are they the same at  12lb if they are different at 8lb and 10lb

B.) why does all my research yield the same data when the 31 is supposed to hold less from everywhere I read?

C.) does it really matter and am I splitting hairs here?

The 30 size spool is definitely alittle more shallow.

I'm not sure why the line ratings are listed like that. Its seems a little confusing.

On my 50 box is says 10 -100m, 12 - 80m, 14 - 70m.

My 50 is not a mgl version.

My 30 mgl box has no line ratings.

Do you notice any difference in those reels with line capacity? Do you feel the 30 is too small of a capacity? When you cast the 30 as far as you can how much line do you think is left on the reel? I just don't want a reel that spools on every cast.

30 is based on JDM specs. Their lines are more true to test, hence thinner. Can't explain the 12# capacity issue.

I have two 30 mgls.

I use one for jerkbaits and the other for light topwaters.

The jerkbait one, I have 12 lbs fluro on. If i make a long cast with a 1/2 oz jerkbait i am getting close to the bottom. But i never felt like i would completely run out of line.

The topwater one i only have 8 lbs mono on. I usually only throw 1/4 to 3/8 oz poppers on it. No issues with line capacity there.

I guess, it really just depends on what line and how you plan to fish the reel.
