Jim_H Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I arrived at a local reservoir to find several conservation officers and county cops at the bottom of the ramp. There was a nice triton bass boat docked up on the rocks next to the ramp. In picture 1 you can barely see the top of this poor guys truck. The rest of the pictures are as a wrecker is winching it up the ramp. How he got it in truck first I don't know. www.photobucket.com/mississinewaramp Quote
kms399 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 crazy where is the boat launch it just looks like grass and why was the truck facing out to the lake. sucks to be him! Quote
BigBassGuy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 That looks like a pretty small vehicle to be towing a boat that size. I'm guessing the brakes went out. Quote
Jim_H Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 It is a large ramp, but it was being winched up a little bit left of the ramp. It was a Ford Explorer. That ramp is extremely steep. It is at Mississinewa Reservoir in Indiana, which is a flood control reservoir. It either went in truck first or possibly floated around. I couldn't believe that trailer held up without bending anything when pulling it out. The cable was just hooked on the trailer frame. Quote
clipper Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I wonder if he broke his parking gear trying to power the boat off the trailer in reverse? I guess he can sell the boat to buy a car :'(. Quote
CGH Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I would guess that the truck was park with the boat off the trailer. Driver either forgot to place the vehicle in park and hoped out to do this of that and the truck and trailer just rolled away! Would not be the first time this has happen Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 Reguardless, it's a mess. Quote
simplejoe Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 It would be even more funny if that would happen to be his wife's SUV because his trucks in the shop for repair and she didn't want him to go fishing with her car. Imagine explaining that when you got home fellas. lol Either way that would suck. ;D Quote

lv2fish Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 At least he put the plug in the boat. I wonder if he went out fishing after that? I would have. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted April 28, 2009 Super User Posted April 28, 2009 At least he put the plug in the boat. I wonder if he went out fishing after that? I would have. Might as well. He no longer has a vehicle capable of pulling the boat out of the water. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 MAAAAAAAAAAAAN, do people go fishing drunk/hungover or what!?! You should have gotten his # so i could try and low ball him on the boat!!! Quote
Tim Ford Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 It looks like he tried to drive down the ramp truck first to get the boat into the water! ;D Quote

dickenscpa Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I used to laugh my tail off at stories like this, but not anymore. I did the forgot the plug deal my very first trip, but everybody does that at some point. Friday night I almost did a huge boo boo and made me realize, crap can happen to anybody. It was 11PM, dark and people waiting on me to get my boat outta the water. You know what happens when you rush yourself. I usually take my truck out of park and it starts pulling the boat out. Water was high and I was backed way in to get the trailer in the water. Took my foot off the gas and started rolling backwards a bit. Thought I needed to give it a little gas since I was so steep. Nah, I was in reverse. Backend of the boat took on a bit of water, I realized my error quickly and pulled her on out. I avoided an expensive and embarrassing situation, but saw how quickly a momentary lapse in concentration can cost you. Quote

You are correct when you say it can happen to anyone. Instead of sympathy, ridicule. It is funny but, to accuse someone of stupidity or drunkeness is not necessary. Quote

I was quasi defending the guy. That's why I don't laugh at other's misfortune. You never know what events beyond someone's control lead to a mishap. We all lose our concentration at times and it's impossible to avoid. Sometimes all it takes is a split second and the other half of that second is like, "oh crap!" Quote
tyrius. Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If you look at the second picture you can see that the vehicle is not straight in front of the trailer. In the first picture you can also see the top of the vehicle to the right of the pedastal seat. As the trailer/vehicle are being pulled out in picture 2 you can see that the vehicle is now further out into the water. It's stands to reason that the diver hooked the tow cable on the trailer because it was easier than hooking it to the front of the vehicle. Then the tow driver pulled it out trailer first. Could have been a number of things, but he certainly didn't drive it in vehicle first. Quote

So your saying that after the truck and trailer back down in to the water the driver got in and attempted to drive it to the other side of the lake to get it out. And that is why the setup was turned around???? Things that Make you go Hummmmmmmmm Quote
Calcutta Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 It looks to me (looking at the last two pictures) like he started sliding backwards on the ramp, locked the brakes, slid side ways, and the truck entered the water first bypassing the trailer due to the weight of the truck being so much more than the boat trailer.Sound feasable?
