ALX Enox vs St Croix Legends

I am currently looking at getting an ALX Enox Decoy (or Hunch) casting rod. I currently have a St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass and  St. Croix Legend X (both casters). Can anyone comment on the ALX Enox? Possibly compare it to my current St. Croix rods if you've had any experience with St. Croix.  Where do you think it would stack up?

 

For a bonus, I used a Shimano GL Conquest with an Aldebaran today. No chance am I spending that much on a set up but where would an ALX Enox compare here?

 

I was probably going to match up the ALX Enox with either a Shimano Curado 70 or a Shimano Aldebaran (If  can afford it). Any comments here would also be appreciated (kinda a double bonus). Okay, thanks folks!!!

I had a 70MH Legend X. Couldn't really get on with the handle, but the blank was outstanding. I think the Enox Decoy is very similar action and sensitivity to that 70MH SCV. The newer Croix tapers don't seem to be as stiff as years past and the Decoy has a similar tip section. For the price, I think it's an excellent comparison to the GLX and Legends. Especially if you get it on sale and bump it down a few more shillings. The Enox is $271 at TW right now. Tough to beat at that price.

   No attempt to threadjack here, just a word of advice: if you get the Curado 70, clean out the bearings or have a professional do it. It seems to make a greater difference with the 70 than it does with larger reels.    jj

I would say its not quite a Legend X but comparable with the Legend Tournament

I think it is important to mention which enox are you guys talking about (old gen vs 2020) because I heard their blanks are completely different animals. Meanwhile st croix legends blanks (besides new extremes) have not seen an update in years.

St Croixs SCV blank is superior. ALX rods are a nice rod but the St Croix warranty is superior as well

Which 2020 enox and which scv st croix did you fish?

I would say this is an accurate assessment of the Zolo rods.

I’d personally go with the enox based off the couple of others that I own. The St. Croix rods I’ve handled (avids, legend tournaments) haven’t impressed me all that much, but everybody likes something different, just like some will not like the enox. Get what feels most comfortable to you if you’re able to handle both rods before purchasing.

 

What are you hoping to do with this rod?

I only fished one model and there are always stars within a series. Can't go wrong either way but I would go with the St Croix due to warranty and Fuji Torzite/Titanium guides over Kigan. ALX makes a good rod, very balanced, overall good company. Can't go wrong with these two companies ever.

-the Zolo is between at Legend Tournament and a Legend X

-good company, good rods

 

Where does that place the 2020 Enox? Above a Legend X or right there with it. I feel confident in saying it is not as good as a Shimano Conquest right?

 

I'm wanting to use the same lures as I do on a Medium Legend X. Chatterbaits, jerkbaits, wacky rigs, creature baits...nothing too big so anything in the 1/4-7/8oz range. I know there is no 1 size fits all rod but I kinda use my Legend X for these applications and it's fine. I feel the Enox Decoy matches this description.

2020 Enox is right there with it, in my opinion. Performance is very similar. The price difference is probably due to the Torzite guides on the Legend and maybe just slightly better cork.
