I must have missed it, the rod I use for smaller and finesse jigs is good with 1/4s but absolutely perfect with 5/16s and there aren't a ton of them. What jig is it? Quote
Sphynx Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 I hate these sorts of questions because I always feel like I'm cheating on the rest of my tackle... 1) Jig - If I could fish only one lure for the rest of my life, it would have to be a jig, every PB I have caught has always been on a jig, they are far and away my #1 confidence bait. 2) Spinnerbait - First bass I ever caught was on this bait, it is an enormous confidence thing for me, it's also in my opinion the 4x4 of the fishing world, jig it, cast and retrieve, yo yo, grass, wood, rocks, search bait, you name it the Spinnerbait can do it. 3) Walking bait - this is a bit of a cheat for an answer, because there are tons of options here, but some kind of a walking topwater option be that a frog, cigar style, balanced popper, something along those lines. I think that going from prespawn until the beginning of winter I could get it done with these three, if we added a 4th bait for winter I'd add a jerkbait to the list, but out of those listed I still think I could manage year round to get fish on those 3. 1 Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 My 3 lures to cover most lakes would be something like this... Arky head jig Spinnerbait or crankbait - would really have to think long and hard about this, but leaning towards the spinnerbait for being weedless. drop shot for summer or jerkbait or popper for the early and late season - roll the dice really because I literally can't make up my mind. The past few years the boss finesse flip or siebert sniper have been tied on more than my other jigs combined. Highly recommend either one. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted September 13, 2020 Super User Posted September 13, 2020 Gimmie three cranks. A squarebill, a medium diver, and a deep diver. I don't throw them as often as I'll throw other lures. They're not my most productive presentation when the bite is good. But when the bite gets tough and nothing else is working, I can usually get something in the boat with a crankbait. Quote
Cdn Angler Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 I've changed a lot this year compared to last. I was fishing spinnerbaits, rattle traps, whopper plopper, keitechs, spybaits 90% of the time. This year? Senko in green/white, jerkbaits, keitechs, whopper plopper, ima finesse popper, keitech crazy flapper or other t-rigged creature baits 90% of the time. I also went from covering water to working over areas more thoroughly. I've barely thrown a crankbait, spinner, frog, tube, spybait etc all year. I've thrown but had marginal success with flukes and chatterbaits (zero fish caught). The senko has been the only bait that has gotten hammered all year at different lakes, basically no matter what. As you'd expect. 1 Quote
cal9323 Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Paddletail Swimbait Senko / Ned Rig Frog if I cant catch fish using 1 of those, then I would assume there aren’t any fish in that pond ? 1 Quote
