Buzzbaits vs other Topwater lures

I live in the southern part of the United States and in my own experience, when I cannot get bass to hit other topwater lures, a buzzbait virtually always seems to work for me. I'm just wondering, does the sound of a buzzbait somehow make bass become aggressive, topwater feeders? Has anyone had the same experience as me?

I'm sure they hone in on the noise and disturbance on the surface.  Buzzbait is probably my most effective topwater lure.  Can't even get a fish to hit hardly anything else on the surface.

Same here in a lot of the places I fish. Poppers, walking baits, etc. There's been times when they were futile to me, but after putting on a buzzbait, I'm catching multi-fish.

buzzbait, for some reason, gets you the bigger fish too. 

also, time of day helps. The late evenings is better than the mornings in some cases.

Buzzbaits are a good lure for bass fishing but there are times another topwater lure will work better. Poppers, propbaits, wakebaits, hollow belly frogs, and other topwaters all have a time they work best in.

I think some strikes on a buzzbait (or other similar sounding lure like a Plopper) are because the lure sounds like a wounded or struggling meal to the bass. Other times I think they strike it more out of annoyance, kind of the same defensive mechanism as when they take a swipe at another fish that they don't necessarily intend to eat. My experience is that these noisy baits work better when there is a little chop on the water, whereas baits like a walking bait/Spook or a popper tend to work better on calmer water. There are always exceptions to the rule of course.

This thread made me just go out and tie a buzzbait on for tomorrows outing.  I'll be working it early before the sun tops the treeline.  Fingers crossed.

Walking baits work best for me, but I know a lot of people fishin same waters I do consistently catching them on buzzbaits.

For me, evergreen showerblows 105 followed closely by plopper 75 take the top.

Well,  I'm feeling generous tonight and am gonna give up one of my best secrets. The Dinner Minner Buzz Bait by Bull Sluice Outfitters is hands down the best buzz bait I have ever thrown. And growing up on a cypress infested lake had me throwing a buzz bait often. The Minner Dinner is hinged and will not helicopter or spin out on a bombed cast giving you great accuracy. And if you'll pinch the rivet down it'll squeak like nobody's business. The best ones have no skirt, just a paddle tail swim bait. I'll put on all kinds of swim baits with success. I get mine from the Tackle Trap.

I've never had much luck with a buzzbait.  Poppers, frogs, propbaits, etc. are what I prefer.  It seems like the bass in my waters need that pause to want to strike.  I've also had better luck with spinnerbaits just bulging the water at the surface than I have with buzzbaits that actually break it.

The only time I use other top water......is when the conditions don’t allow the use of a buzzbait.

I catch fewer but noticeably larger fish on a buzzbait. I mostly fish it around great cover or other high-percentage spots. Last decent-sized topwater bite was a buzzbait, after having worked the same spot with a paddletail frog and a WP, and caught fish. But the big one wasn't getting out of bed until the buzzbait came by.

Huh...didn't even know they made other topwaters! ......just kidding. I use frog a lot in summer...poppers and walking baits also have a time and place for me. Buzzbait is hands down my favorite. It may be in my top 5 can only have these lures list.

I think the buzzbait is just that effective. I also have roughly the equivalent success with poppers, but for say a whopper plopper, the wind has to be blowing or it has to be in the right spot right at feeding time.

Threw alot of buzzbaits and had really good success with them.

One year I went a couple weeks without getting a buzzbait bite and was fishing a hump that has a large flat on top

Saw a few fish following but not committing so I tried what I consider the finesse buzzbait, the toad

 

Smallie after smallie crushed that toad like they wanted to murder it

I had one hit right at the boat and I about fell off the other side half startled

It's been my lure of choice since then and love using it to skip under docks and laydowns

 

If it rains, if there's a little chop or if I'm on a big fish lake; I'm breaking out the buzzbait

I agree. I think I've caught a handful maybe? Now a spook type lure, I've caught hundreds, mostly smallies. For largemouth, I've been slinging a frog a ton this year and have opened my selection from just the Poppin Pad Crasher to Scum Frog Trophy Series and now the Jackall Kaera S2 Beat.

Pretty much the exact same thing I've experienced this year. I've had a 6th Sense Catwalk tied on all summer since they first came out and have no idea how many fish I've caught on that thing. I've caught a lot of largemouth on a frog, and I've done pretty well on a popper this year also. Both a buzzbait and ploppers have been pretty lackluster in production and it hasn't been for lack of trying.
