billmac Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I loved Fur Fish and Game, Bassmaster, and InFisherman. I only kept my stack of InFisherman. I have the 4 bound volumes of Harry n Charlie. I would love to read those comics between where the 4th volume ends and when the series ended, but I don't know how that could happen. 1 Quote
Ravox Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 What is the content of this magazine, mainly talking about pros and competition or just general bass talk? Quote

Both, plus new products, tips and tricks, stories about technique. Might be good for a beginner or a fan of the sport. For $5 you could get an issue and see if you like it or not. Personally, everything you need is right here, if you look around. There's much more to this site than the forum. There's a HUGE repository of articles and videos covering all topics. BassResource.com is free, as well. 3 Quote

Black Hawk Basser Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I still receive and love In-Fisherman. Everything else seems like a waste of time to me. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted September 3, 2020 Super User Posted September 3, 2020 Is this one of those magazines with top 10 best bass fishing locations and those list are incorrect? You have a better chance at catching a 8 pound or bigger bass in any decent lake in Florida compared to a northern lake in New York, Nebraska, Indiana, or other Northern state where a 6-7 pound bass is considered a trophy bass. Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California have the best bass fishing in the USA and should dominate any top 10 list of best places to bass fish in the USA. There are so many ways you can learn about bass fishing for free that it makes no sense to pay for information that might be incorrect or biased. Super User Cgolf Posted September 4, 2020 Super User Posted September 4, 2020 I still subscribe to BAM, Infish, and Bassmaster. For some reason I still get the FLW magazine, not complaining. To tell you how tied to print magazines I am, I also somehow got the digital subscription to BAM and the only time I used it was to get early access to an article I had a personal tie to. Other than that I have maybe downloaded one issue. I just can't read it on my iPad no matter how much I try. Also hard to clip an article, diagram of structure or a technique, or a picture of a lure I want out of the iPad version. Bassmaster has seemed to go downhill article wise in the last refresh, maybe a year and a half ago. Not as many good articles as before. For my money Infish and BAM are the best. Sitll like the North with Doc series in Infish. Quote
billmac Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 The beauty of forums is that they are interactive. If you don't find what you want, you can always ask. The articles here are excellent, but I learn the most from the forums. Yeah, I probably ask questions that have been asked a hundred times before, but someone is always good enough to answer them again, or at least point to a forum post where I can find the answer. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 6, 2020 Author Super User Posted September 6, 2020 Being a charter life member to Bassmaster I get all the print media the magazine and Bass Bass Times free. When I moved 14 years ago kept the 68-70 years issue and gave away '71 to 2005 issues. The Sept-Oct 2020 issue is a good read with articles on the history of rod building, articles on big bass fishing with few ads. Tom 2 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 7, 2020 Super User Posted September 7, 2020 I haven't subscribed in quite a while and after reading this thread I signed up for 2 years worth to fill in some of the gap between BAM publications. There's something that just feels right with relaxing on the porch while drinking morning coffee and reading an actual magazine instead of something electronic. 2 Quote
Glaucus Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 Absolutely no reason to spend money on physical copies when it's on the internet for free, and MORE. Magazines and newspapers are going the way of cable: irrelevancy. There was a time when almost every American home had a computer, too. Now I know more people who don't have one than those who do because of phones and tablets. Unless you need a computer for work, it's not necessary at all. More and more people are giving up TVs too because of large screen portable tablets. Shoot, even I watch more shows on mine than the TV. Quote

I still won't read on the tablets, but watch most sports on my iPad mini because my wife isn't a fan. Will be a sad day when magazines are gone. 1 Quote

Tom I am as well. I still enjoy the mag and Times but I agree it may be dwindling away. The ad dollars are just not following the print media. I did buy a membership for my grandson and renew it every year. He is thrilled to get it each month. Another thing that is more prolific these days are the YouTube videos. You can now watch and learn what we used to do with the mags. Quote
Dogfish_Jones Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 I think they still have some good informative articles in them I will take quality over quantity. Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 I used to subscribe to BassMaster, In-fisherman, Field and Stream and pretty much anything else I could get my hands on...back in the 80-90's it was the only way to get information and broaden my perspective.  Also subscribed to DU, 4Wheel and Off Road, 4x4 Magazine, PC Magazine, CPU Magazine, Truck Trend, Hot Rod, Super Chevy, Wildfowl, Men's Health, Maxim, etc., etc., etc. I would pour over the articles, then physically cut out the articles I liked and filed them away.  I started seeing articles re-cycled over the course of years...and came to realize there really wasn't anything new in these magazines...just the same things recycled over and over...and some of the stuff was complete BS in there just to get me to buy things.  One thing I have come to realize as I have grown older...pretty much everything out there on TV, magazines, newspapers, media, etc.....exists for one purpose and one purpose only...to separate you from your $$$.  That is why I rely heavily these days on the following:  1. actual face to face conversations with real people. 2. message boards with no ties to businesses that are trying to sell me something. 3. FB groups again with no ties to business trying to sell things.  I like to think the above are giving me true opinions and assistance as opposed to trying to sell me something. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted September 15, 2020 Super User Posted September 15, 2020 I remember the old Classic issues and loved to read it all. Â The Day On A Lake series is still worth reading. Â I also remember being perturbed about coverage dedicated to smallmouth. Â What was I thinking?? Â Quote

This again? You florida guys beed to up those bags if you you want to get back on the lists!    With bassmaster magazine, i think a lot of why mine just get shuffled through is because its just not information i need or dont already know. When i was young and didnt have as much experiance, i got a lot more out of it. Over time we try all the new stuff and listen to the pros. Before long, there just isnt that much new stuff. I know i rarely see something in a magazine that i didnt already know about or at least have a reasonable understanding of. I imagine most of the people on this forum are in the same situation.   Someone who is fairly new to bass fishing can still get a lot out of reading them, im sure. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted September 16, 2020 Super User Posted September 16, 2020 You can find plenty of free fishing advice online from experienced bass fishermen in this forum and YouTube which will help anyone from beginner to advanced bass fisherman. 8 hours ago, Jleebesaw said: Someone who is fairly new to bass fishing can still get a lot out of reading them, im sure. Super User Munkin Posted September 23, 2020 Super User Posted September 23, 2020 Not sure when I cancelled Bassmaster but they kept sending it to me for like 3 years afterwards. It has become an commercial pamphlet for Toyota and Berkeley.  Allen Quote
