A Maxsent worm has't caught 1 DD bass. The very old obsolete Pork rind jig & pig has caught 1,000's of DD bass. Trendy lures sell, vintage lures that work don't.

Kinda like the pre rap wiggle warts. I know they are special but I've seen them well for $100 bucks plus sometimes. For a bait that was probably $3 new. I mean yeah they are cool...but are they cooler then 20 new ones for the same price? Like you said about the teckels...if you could get your hands on a few ultra rare warts you could sell those and buy a fishing kayak.

Eh, a good WW is worth 100 new ones. They're the Ned rig of crankbaits on White River chain bass in the early spring. I can tell you from experience, fishing from the back of the boat when the guy in the front has a good WW and knows how to use it, is not a fun fishing trip.

You may be right...my experience with them is limited.

Yes, it was a 4” crawler type with a flat bit of a tail. I could kill for some of those. Just don’t see how they discontinued it. Had to be popular. Marketing I guess.

I have yet to fall for hype, but then again I'm a person who feels they can catch fish pretty darn well with what I already have in the boat.

I was catching fish on YUM Killshots before this Flatworm craze and will continue to do so.

Remember when Teckel Sprinkers were selling for $80 each?? I stumbled into 3 of them for retail and kept them because I didn't want to miss out. Man I'd love to hit rewind and do that over again, I'd love to have the new rod or reel I could have bought for the money I'd made selling those 3 stupid frogs. They work, but what was I thinking?? ?‍♂️

I only want to buy a gun or ammo when gun control hysteria grips the country and you have to pay through the nose to get one. It never seems important otherwise.

There is something to be said for showing the fish something they haven't seen yet or don't see often. But this looks like just a worm to me. I love watching YouTube videos of people digging out their grandpa's lures and using them with success.

Anybody who follows this forum has seen that guys like collecting rods, reels and lures just for the fun of it, not necessarily because that gear will catch more fish. The other thing I’ve seen is that many, many fishermen believe that there is a magic lure that will be the difference between a skunk and a boat full of fish. Even though they already have tackle boxes full of lures that will all catch fish (when put in the right place at the right time) there is an excitement in trying to find the next “magic“ bait. The fishing industry depends on those guys to stay in business. I jumped on the Whopper Plopper bandwagon and caught a bunch fish on them, but the bass in my favorite river seems to have tired of them because they haven’t been effective lately. I went back to my old school Mepps spinner and got them. As long as people are not being scammed by fake reports just so someone can sell lures, they should have fun and buy whatever they like.

When I get done redoing my little Pelican I'm going to show those bass a jig-n-pig with real pork, a jitterbug, some Mann's augertail worms, some old Stanley spinnerbaits, and my favorite 1/8 Owner ball head with a Mister Twister grub in chartreuse with copper flake.  And I'll probably throw some Bomber A's too.  (All still in my stash).

I'll be using old Fenwick rods with Shimano Bantams, and 23 year old Stradics.

I'm gonna hammer them!

I agree on the whopper plopper but wholeheartedly disagree about the vision 110.  It really does produce - I know you would never buy one but they work great.

They are on the slider site, or is it a different version you are looking for?

For some, it doesn't matter whether they fish the latest hot baits or not, they just catch.  For others, just trying new things and experimenting makes fishing fun.  Looking good never catches you more fish.  Some of us can't help that, though, lol.

I never did buy a whopper plopper. Most times, I'm behind on the new stuff. As an example, I wasn't even sure what a flatworm was untill I read this post. I still catch bass on older and a few newer baits. The fish are still doing the same thing they've done since the beginning. It's fisherman who are always looking for something new and better. This is what makes the whole tackle business tick. As has been said here, a jig/ pig has caught big bass for decades, and will continue to work in the future

I tend to think most of the best lure designs were invented decades ago. New ones are a slight variation of old designs. It would be very hard if not impossible to invent a totally new bass lure, without borrowing from the past.

If your catching fish on an older bait, and you're happy with it, fish on! Older and newer can both be good. Use the ones you like. If they work for you, that's what matters.

Ha...yeah it for sure isn't a beauty contest. If it was then the Ned and a senko wouldn't be two of the most productive baits. Guess the fish don't care that they look like a cat turd.

Why is that "magic lure" always the one that they don't have?  Hmmmmmmmm......    ?  jj

I inherited from my father a whole bunch of pristine Heddon Prowlers in almost every color they were offered in. He just really liked the way they moved in the water. I don't think any of us ever caught a single fish on one.

They still make it but only in pink marketed as a steelhead worm. I have a stash of GP and smoke but really need some black ones.

Soft plastics this year,  I have been throwing 10 inch ring worms . I dont remember if they are rebel or not but they work . I only have one left and it will probably be used next tyrip . Also been throwing 10 inch Berkely ribbon tail Power baits . They are probably still being made but I'm down to two . Then I've been throwing an 8 inch Manns Jelly Worm in blueberry . I have a good supply of those left .I still use an awful lot of out of production cranks including a couple of original Wiggle Warts just not in the highly sought out colors .

Those older baits will get you (me) out of a jam on tough days. I’m just getting low on some old Berkley stuff. I went through my one soft bag the other day and came across two new bags of the old Mr. Twister Bandit Ribbon Tail Worms. Fresh unopened. It was like Christmas Day.

After seeing all those YouTube videos of vicious explosions on the Whopper Plopper, I ordered the 130 in bone color. I caught a couple on it in prespawn-spawn last season, then nothing. But they were big fish. After watching videos of people saying the 90 gets more bites I bought one of those and started trying it. Nothing. Then I went to stay at my sister's neighborhood at the beach. It has freshwater canals and a pond. Fish there see a lot of lures, so I threw the whole tackle box at them. The 90 worked there. This morning I caught 8 on the size 90 in my friends' backyard 2 acre pond. Biggest was 3.5 lb. I also tried a Pop R, Chug Bug and Spook without a single bite.

It does seem to me, watching videos, that the WP works better for smallmouth and in streams and rivers.

I’ve never had a largemouth hit my plopper. I’ve had a couple short strikes. But the River smallies in Missouri blast it.

I will say this for them. The hooks are the BEST and scalpel sharp. I didn't miss or lose a single fish this morning.
