Fishingwithfleas Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Hey guys, so looking for some advice in my situation please nothing harsh I feel like I messed up bad enough as is. So I’ve been looking for a tin boat for a while now needed to be under 2000lbs due to towing restrictions. After a long time of looking used without finding anything good decided to finance new. Picked up a tracker 160 on Saturday. (For the life of me I’m still not sure why I paid more for this model over the classic, originally I saw the classic was like 1750lbs package weight and I figured after I loaded it up And made some mods, I’d be right up to my towing capacity, the 160 is less than 1500lbs.) anyways took the boat on the water for the first time and I get why everyone on here preaches about size, I couldn’t stand in the d**n thing without feeling like I could tip! Seriously the stability on this boat even with one person is awful, the front casting deck is basically for sitting and that can get sketchy. I’m not trying to come off snobby here, It’s just hard for me to imagine gettig much use out of something I use for leisure, when I feel uncomfortable and unsafe, even worse knowing there’s a 7 year payment plan with it. Currently Owe around 10k on the boat, this all just blows, I’m gonna be working I disagree off to pay for something I won’t use because Im not comfortable or safe in the d**n thing. I can probably knock it off in about 3 and a half years if I hustle and try to sell it myself or trade in for something bigger, would I be better off trying to sell without pink slip ? Wondering if anyone has any experience or advice for me, any help is appreciated. Quote

Fishingwithfleas Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 I doubt bass pro would do that for me but I guess it’s worth a shot. Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted August 27, 2020 Super User Posted August 27, 2020 What do you mean selling without the pink slip? If you are talking selling without a title, don’t. You will open a big old can of worms. Quote
haggard Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Spend some time on the water with it. First time out you're not used to it. Takes a while to get used to it and your body will adapt. My first time out in my cheap tippy kayak I thought "this was a mistake" but after one season I feel very comfortable in it. The yak didn't change. Quote

The yak didn't change. My feelings as well, put a frt raised casting deck on a 14' V bottom tin boat and thought it was a mite tippy feeling at first. Took about half dozen fishing trips and now I don't notice it at all, everything takes some getting used too. Otherwise pay it off as quick as possible and sell it legal with title. Dave Quote
Fishingwithfleas Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 Thanks I appreciate all the replies, is selling without pink/ title always just a no no? So unless I end up selling to a dealership, I just have to bite the bullet and pay off the boat? Quote

Goldstar225 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I'm with those who say give it some time. I went from a 14X36 jon boat to a tracker 170 TX (similar in size to your boat) and felt like it was an aircraft carrier deck by comparison! Fished out of that boat for seven years, often with three people (me, son, and grandson). I don't know how boat, motor, and trailer transfers work in your state as far as titles/registration but in general it would be like a car with a note. You sell it with a bill of sale and immediately and pay off the loan and surrender the title to the new owner. If you sell for less than the pay off, reach into your pocket to pay the balance. Don't leave the new owner hanging with a boat he can't register. Quote
