Gsurko Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 What’s a good line to go with on a baitcasting rig intended for weightless Senko fishing? Braid with floro leader or would I be better off with straight floro? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 Seaguar #6 InvizX is fine, but the premium line is Tatsu. I recommend spinning tackle for this application. Quote
Tizi Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 It depends on how I am fishing the senko: skipping or casting to targets. If skipping, I am using spinning gear and 6-8 lb YZ hybrid or Sufix Siege, if casting gear 10lb Invisx. Quote
Super User Teal Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 The lighter the better, but consider your cover. There had been many times that I have just picked up a spinning rod with 8 lb line because the current was calm and cover was light... if I'm going under docks I like at least 10lb, I've thrown them weightles on 15lb floor on casting gear... that's quite frequent actualy.... especially under docks and around brush. I've been known to flip them to holes in matted grass on 50 or 65 lb braid. Adapt your line as light as you can go reasonably but don't be afraid to throw it on heavy line if the cover and conditions call for it... the action is amazing on 8 lb line and spinningnrod tho 2 Quote

Well, independent testing shows that YZH breaks at a higher weight than the stated pound-test - so I can easily see a near 8# bass being caught on 4# YZH. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 #4 diameter is .009 with a breaking strength of 8.5 lbs Quote

Here's the full chart. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 OOPS! Thanks...the post has been edited. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 For senkos, I use 8lb Tatsu on my spinning and 12lb Sunline Assassin on my baitcaster. If I know I'll be fishing near decent cover, I'll bump up to 15-17lb fluorocarbon. I like to let them sink, leaving the line slacked at times, so I avoid braid. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 No, we did not have enough participation in the last several events, so we had to cancel future roadtrips. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted August 27, 2020 Super User Posted August 27, 2020 I like 8-10lb line for Senko. It is not landing the fish that I worry but to dive the 4/0 hook into fish mouth. With my typical senko hook set and M+ to MH rod, I would get a lot of brake off with lighter line. If wacky rig I can go down to 6lb line. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 27, 2020 Super User Posted August 27, 2020 Well, you might need to make an adjustment. I promise you will get more bites and probably catch more bass with lighter line when we are talking soft plastics. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted August 27, 2020 Super User Posted August 27, 2020 For weightless Senkos I throw on a baitcaster - 20 lb Sufix 832 and a 10 lb Sniper fluorocarbon leader... sometimes 12 lb if skipping a lot around dock posts, cross braces, etc. Quote

Now how much impact would .009mm (4lb)line compare to .011(8lb) to bass visibility or lure movement? As a lot of opinion about bass is not so line shy creatures. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I would say it depends on where the Senko is going. In my case it is really thick hydrilla so it goes on 15lb Invizx on a bait cast reel. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 27, 2020 Super User Posted August 27, 2020 I fish a 4" Senko on 10 lb Big Game. I fish the larger size Senkos on 15 lb Big Game. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 27, 2020 Super User Posted August 27, 2020 I use 8 lb. YZH on spinning reels and 12 lb. YZH on baitcasters. Quote
shimanoangler Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 I use a spinning rod for this application, and my go to line is Sufix Nanobraid to a longer floro leader (typically something like Seaguar Red Label or Tatsu) in the 15 foot range to avoid the knot impeding my cast. The Nano braid just handles so well, is fairly rugged and casts a mile. This setup works really well for me, but again, I don't use baitcasters for this application, I use spinning exclusively. 1 Quote
NJBasstard Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Weightless texas rigged 5"+ senkos on casting with 30lb braid to 12lb leader. Wacky rigged senkos 5" or less get fished on spinning with 10-15lb braid to a 6-8lb leader. Power Pro, J Braid or Smackdown for braid and mostly Seaguar Red Label for leader. Quote
