Glad you got the tree removed. Hopefully at a reasonable cost.

I know what you mean about the power. We had an ice storm about 10 years ago. It dropped a forest-full of trees all over the area, knocking out power to 4 million people - some for several weeks.  Fallen trees shut down 20 miles of a major highway for 4 days.

It sucks, but rest easy with the knowledge it's all temporary.

Excellent news! I sometimes think hurricanes target Louisiana at the end of summer just to make us appreciate that essential AC once the juice begins flowing. I've documented the struggles of utility crews after major hurricanes and those guys more than earn their pay and our heartfelt appreciation.

Tom, that's brings me back to Hurricane Charley, when the exact same scene took place outside our house.

Help came from several neighboring states; they can't imagine what a welcome sight they were.

I'm happy that you guys now see the light at the end of the tunnel    :thumbsup3:

I had to ride in one of those buckets for a few days at work a couple weeks ago, it sucked! Kudos to the electrical workers and tree guys, glad they are fixing you back up

Me too

After Charley came down my street we lost power for 9 days.

After a disaster like you guys had, just seeing a truck with a bucket got us excited!

Hopefully it won’t be much longer.

Thanks Tom!  I was without power (used a generator though) from Thursday morning until Sunday night.  I live directly south of Shreveport about 16 miles and the worst of the storm went just to the east of me.  Took me about a week to pick up all the branches but luckily no trees fell and no one around me got hurt.  Here we are a week and half later and there are people down south still without food and struggling real bad.

Geeze man, that's terrible news.  So sorry to hear that.  Prayers for your family.

Do they have any idea when power will be restored?

Catt, hope they get your power restored soon. I lost power at my house one winter years ago due to an ice storm. We went 4 days with no lights, heat, etc. I cooked stuff in the backyard on a Coleman camping stove. It's rough. I hope things can improve for you guys soon.

@Mobasser I have a gas stove partially because they cook better than electric & I don't worry about losing power. This house was built in the late 60s so it has 2 gas wall heaters in the bathrooms, the hot water heater is gas.

Oh my... I've been out of the loop here. Knew it was coming your way and did wonder about you. Right in the path, evacuated. Sorry to hear. Good to hear you all are OK. Nice having those warnings in place.

Here it's forest fires, and the flooding and mudslides that follow. Once you've been through it, smoke, and rain, don't smell the same; They get my heart pounding automatically. We're in drought this summer and it's a tinderbox out there. Some big and huge fires this year. Distant ones -like on the other side of the state- bring a heavy smoke smell that gets me out of bed at 3a.m. to scan the  divide for that sickly orange-brown glow. If I don't see that, I go back to bed. A couple that are close enough bring ash that rains down on us as we fish (see photo). "Scary, scary, scary" was all I could say. While my fishing partner, who hadn't been through it, kinda just shrugged. I even had a lightning strike in my meadow earlier this summer, and then saw smoke. I ran out, along with a neighbor who saw it too, and stamped out a grass fire before it could run. (Imagine an Indian rain dance and you'll have it. Took me a couple of turns around the ring to get it.) If that strike had happened 100yrds further W, we may have been evacuating.

Feeling for you, Tommy. Been there.

Still no power in the bluff today. I saw some areas in lake Charles are starting to get it. Moss bluff what did us in was all the trees man. Beauregard is rebuilding from ground up from what I've heard. That includes the high lines on north end of river. I can only imagine what kind of pain it's going to be to get up there

The over all opinion was that the national media was real quiet about it due to election and Covid news.  Much of the relief came from the northern part of the state as churches such as mine and other groups and churches sent down crews and money and gas cans, gas, etc....thank you very much for your concern and prayers.

I found a little bit of time today to finally have a bit of decompression. Fished the pond behind Costco in Lafayette and caught two small bass. That had to be two most emotional hooksets I've ever had in my life

Tropical storm Sally is the earliest 18th storm named on record and there is a good chance it might become a hurricane before making landfall. It has been an extremely active year for hurricanes and hurricane season does not end until November 30th. The year 2005 had the most hurricanes if I remember and this year might have more hurricanes.

Like the Forgotten Hurricane Rita, Laura is being ignored by the news.

Like Rita the residents of Southwest Louisiana & Southeast Texas regardless of skin color, religion, or any other adjective they wanna stick on us. We simply rolled our shirt sleeves up & went to work!

Relief! It has came from individuals & corporations from around the world. A local convenience store near me is owned by people from India, his parents in India along with friends purchased semitrailer loads of ice & water that was handed out free.

Tree removal companies & electrical companies from 48 states are here.
