I live in moss bluff. Just north of lake Charles. This town used to be surrounded by trees. Now.it looks like a warzone. We had half a pine tree break and bust through the dining room. Almost every other pine tree we had fell. Luckily those fell in the road. other than the dining room and the water coming in from the hole and rain we made it out ok compared to.others. we were kinda blessed. But its definitely not good down here

Sorry to hear that, man. But glad y’all are safe

Update

Lake Charles & surrounding areas will be without electricity & water for at least 4 weeks. Some areas longer, some less.

Heading home this morning to evaluate damage to my house. Next I'll be looking temporary housing within driving distance of Lake Charles.

It's gonna be fun y'all ?

4 weeks? That’s unreal. Prayers for a faster recovery. It’ll probably bring the city closer together than before anyway.

And I hope your house ( and boat ) are ok. Take a vacation to Florida and I’ll hook you up! Cant gaurantee there wont be a hurricane here by then though...

These natural disasters are unpredictable and unpreventable.

Really praying everyone recovers quickly.

Being without electricity is annoying, but no big thing. Being without water, however ...... that's bad. Hope they get that straightened out for you ASAP.    jj

Well there's a house under there somewhere ?

Actually looks worse than it is, broke the fascia, little bit of decking, no missing shingles, slight water damage in my bedroom but it's just damp sheetrock, no windows broke.

Thank you Lord! ?

House survived with minor siding damage, but no glass/roof damage, almost every tree everywhere is toast though, boy howdy that went a lot better than I had any right to hope for.

Catt, glad things turned out ok, as best they could. Your self and family are all safe, and that's the main thing. It's doesn't look good by any means , but better than expected.

Glad you are all okay and the damage isn't any worse. Maybe they will get all the utilities back on and you can be back in your house sooner than expected. Send all your Tackle Warehouse orders to me. I will take care of them for you.

Yes there's one store & Sam's that are open with fuel. The same two that quickly opened after Rita.

Academy does...lol

Also, as a public service announcement, don't be like my now looking for housing room mate and abuse the FEMA process for those affected, there are plenty of folks who legitimately need that help and using this as an excuse to replace appliances that went out before the storm hit is *** and screwing the folks who don't even have homes now, yes that room mate is now looking for new living arrangements.

Update from us: house is definitely  not livable and the fish kill has started on the river. On a bright note I always wanted a skylight and a pine deck in my dining room and kitchen. ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️

Yeah, I hear that Tom.

When Hurricane Charley lambasted Florida in 2004, we were living in Orlando, Florida.

Since we were in the state's interior, we were immune to storm surge, however, the wind speed at Orlando Airport

was officially clocked at 105 mph. We were exactly 3 mi north of the airport, which I could see from my roof.

Though we escaped newsworthy damage, many homes in our community were brutally gutted (total loss).

After relocating in Lake Wales, FL, we're now 70 mi away from both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts (Not by accident).

In 2017, Hurricane Irma made landfall as a Cat-4 Hurricane in the Florida Keys. some 200 miles south of Lake Wales, FL.

I was confident that we were out of harms way, yet Irma churned thru 200 miles of inland Florida, ultimately causing serous damage

in our neighborhood. Some 'blue roofs' are still in evidence today. As it turned out, Irma was

the most powerful hurricane to impact Florida, so climate extremes among all calamities is a reality indeed, not a myth.

@RoLo Two sons & I drove around the neighborhood, one house no damage the next destroyed, a 2' diameter tree twisted & snapped while a 18" diameter tree next to it not phased.

It's wild ?
