wis bang Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Pre-boat I walked out on a small dock next to a public boat ramp on a weekday. opened my stool and sat down. hooked on my wacky worm and tossed it into the water while I got set and watched a really nice LMB rush out and grab my worm and spit it out before I could react. Last time I saw that Bass! Quote

Then you should catch some . I can’t tell you how many bass I’ve caught on panfish jigs while targeting white perch and etc. I just caught what’s probably my PB river smallmouth yesterday on a 1/16oz crappie jig. 1 Quote
avdr22 Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 Okay! Definitely going to try a whacky rig with . I only have size 3/0 hooks though. Is that pointless and should I go make the trip to Cabela's to get the 1/0s? Quote

All you have to do when the bass is on is reel in the slack until the line tightens and the hookset is automatic. You’ll have to set the hook with a 3/0 worm hook (if that’s what you’re referring to). 1 Quote
wis bang Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 the octopus hook has the point aimed at the eye so when you feel something start reeling and as the fish spits it out they still hook themselves....haven't needed to go through the gills in years Quote

I just feel bad having already spent quite a but of money but haven't caught anything so I'm hesitant to spend more ? Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 I just bought two packs of Gammy 1/0 octopus hooks (6 ea) for $3.99/ea. Not bad. If you can’t find octopus hooks, circle hooks will do, but I feel that octopus hooks give a better hookset. If you want to try a WR with o rings, get #10 o rings at HD, Lowe’s etc. Or simply hook the Senko at the halfway point. Good luck! Quote
avdr22 Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Update: Well I am getting a little bit closer. Ordered a ton of 1/0 hooks and senkos of all different kinds to whacky rig. Probably fished another 40 hours since my original post, and had two times where I for sure had a bass on the line. Lost them both though. I think by the time I hit around 300 hours of fishing I will have probably caught one for sure. Just a matter of time now, thanks for the advice everyone Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 Well, you need to find another place to fish. Quote
avdr22 Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Don't have too many options. Urban Western Washington is very bad for someone without even a raft or boat. Tried so many lakes I saw on google maps but public access is really bad. Quote
avdr22 Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Plus there are definitely some people that have success where I am fishing. I think there is some kind of "X-factor" when it comes to bass fishing that I might be missing that is causing me to get a much lower bite rate than other people, like my pattern of retrieval might be slightly different than people that catch fish or something else Quote
