Gsurko Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I’m looking to put together a baitcasting setup for weightless t-rig senko fishing. Not interested in bragging rights as far as equipment goes just a nice fishing rig in that good value for the buck area. I fish from a boat on small lakes that hold some nice lamb. That should say lmb. Auto correct strikes again. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 23, 2020 Super User Posted August 23, 2020 Low end of the scale is what I use for weightless/light T-Rigs (1/8oz and under) Pflueger President Diawa Aird-X M/F Nearing the end of my 3rd season with that setup, and it's been good to me. Quote

Thanks, just what I was thinking, a medium would cast the light weight and give me the sensitivity needed with the light lures, correct? Quote

I haven't had any issues tossing a weightless T-Rig or even a Wacky rigged Senko decent distances with that rig. I've also been impressed with the sensitivity of the Aird-X rods (I have 3 BC and 1 Spinning)...great rod for the price-point. Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Definitely a job for a Medium Fast spinning rod and a 2000-3000 sized spinning reel for me. I personally use a Daiwa Tatula XT 7' MF and a Daiwa Fuego LT 2500 with the faster gear ratio. If I could do it again I would pick up a Daiwa Tatula Bass MF or a 13 Omen Black MF. Both of those rod lines have impressed me and the longer I fish, the more I affirm it's often the rod more than the reel. I would put a Daiwa Revros LT on either rod and be proud of the setup. 2 Quote

I have an M/F Spinning rig I use for the same techniques Pflueger Trion-30 (2500 size) Diawa Aird-X M/F (ya, my spinning Aird-X) Quote

I really like the two Aird X rods I have (one M and the other MH), and the Revros is a hidden gem. A Revros on a MF Aird X would be a great combo for weightless TR Senkos. 1 Quote
Gsurko Posted August 23, 2020 Author Posted August 23, 2020 I have a spinning setup just like you fellas recommend, I just prefer a baitcaster overall. Sounds like in the market for a medium/ fast rod and suitable reel. Thanks so much. Going to look long and hard at that Aird x rod. Quote

For reference, my other two Aird-X rigs are: Pflueger Supreme on a Aird-X MH/F - Spinners/chatters/buzzbaits, jigs, heavier T-Rigs (3/8oz to 3/4oz) Diawa Fuego CT-XS on a Aird-X H/F - Flip/pitch/punch, Bubba-shot, frogs, heavier topwaters (Super Spooks, WP-90 & 110) Quote

That said, I've never thrown weightless Texas on a casting rod, and can't offer much on the subject. Folks more experienced on the matter should chime in, I'm all ears. 1 Quote

To be honest, I only do weightless/wacky with the BC if it's heavier plastics - Senkos, Pit Boss, Missile D'Stroyers, etc. If I'm using lighter plastics, it's on the spinning rig. Or if I'm skipping any - still trying to learn how to skip with a BC. ? Quote
Gsurko Posted August 23, 2020 Author Posted August 23, 2020 I’m throwing them now with Lews speed stick in mh/f but I’m looking for better sensitivity that I think a m/f will give me plus load the rod better for casting. Quote
Hewhospeaksmuchbull Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Dobyns SA 703c and a Tatula SV been getting the job done here. Light enough tip to sling weightless stick worm, plenty of backbone to set hook. About 350.00 Budget option, Fury 703 and a Feugo CT. Under two bills. 1 Quote

I do not know how their baitcasting rods are, but I really, really like the Daiwa Procyon spinning rod I just got. The cork grips are very nice for the price and it’s pretty sensitive. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted August 24, 2020 Super User Posted August 24, 2020 If I'm throwing weightless Senko it's going to be med......no way am I throwing MH unless I wanna see them dance off. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted August 24, 2020 Super User Posted August 24, 2020 I love these threads when I get to say, well if you aren't using a weight then it isn't a texas rig. LOL Then everyone says, you know what he meant 1 Quote
Tizi Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I throw weightless senkos on a 7'1" MHxF Tatula with a Fuego CT. I used 10 lb Invisx. If I am skipping them under docks, whacky rigged, I go to a MF Tatula XT with Fuego LT 3000 using 8 lb YZ hybrid. Quote

I don’t have any docks to skip under, but I do have a lot of tree branches that overhang and leave holes to skip a Senko in (either weightless TR or WR). One of my favorite ways to fish. 1 Quote

Super User JustJames Posted August 24, 2020 Super User Posted August 24, 2020 There should be no restrictions whatsoever to cast senko with baitcaster, any reels should be able to handle Senko just fine, rod M if you wanna get casting distance, MH for cover type fishing, pitching or flipping. So get whatever reel you feel like. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 24, 2020 Super User Posted August 24, 2020 I have a Revo S on a St. Croix MH/F premier rod. I like this rig for weightless 6” senkos and weightless flukes. All other weightless plastic baits go on the spinning reel. Quote

Plus, I don’t really bomb cast TR as a rule. Maybe 60’-90’ on average. But in a pond that’s about all I need. If that lol Quote
NJBasstard Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I throw weightless texas rigged 5" senkos on a 6'9" MH/F casting rod. Changed from a M to the MH around 2011 and never felt the need to go back. I use this same combo for skipping senkos and flukes. A 5" senko with a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG is pushing close to 3/8oz. Most MH rods will throw that weight perfectly fine and have enough power to set the hook & pull the fish from whatever cover I'm fishing. Quote
Super User Teal Posted August 24, 2020 Super User Posted August 24, 2020 I throw them on few different rods, depending on what I already have rigged and depending on cover. Powell 723 7'2 MH xf Zillion 6,6 M xf Powell 712 7'1 med fast spinning I put them on a c rig and a split shot rig alot too Heck recently I was flipping a weightless Yamamoto seiko in to thick hydrilla with a 7'6 heavy. Not ideal, but it caught the fish that day. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted August 24, 2020 Super User Posted August 24, 2020 If your having issues, use a super line hook and don’t look back Quote
