Tatsu Dave Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 The last week to 10 days has seen nightime temps falling now (nite before last 48 degrees, last night 57) water temps have come down noticeably as well, we are finding bass are moving and feeding more. Will spend tomorrow on a new lake for us and hope to post some pics and experiences this weekend. River levels and lakes in general are down from the dry summer and algae and plankton is covering a lot of waterways pretty bad this year. I expect the drawdown on Sebasticook lake will happen soon if its not already happening, Sebasticook river is covered side to side in areas with plankton. Pleasant (Stetson) lake is so low rocks are becoming a real hassle in shallow areas and coves. Want to get up to Wassookeag in Dexter and smallmouth fish also, used to commerical smelt fish there and in Schoodic. Any Maine Fisherman in central area give us a report if you can. Dave Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 OK spent the day on Webber Pond exploring and fishing, caught some bass but being Saturday the boat traffic was bad and fishing pressure was high. Showed up at daylight and was first on scene but by 10AM all 7 truck/trailer spots were filled with a neighbor getting $5 a pop to park in his yard, also several rigs had parked out on the main road and walked back. 10 rigs with many more lakeside boats also out, some just roaring around and others fishing, little too small for me for all that traffic Finally pulled in and headed out, state had people on site when you came in to inspect boat for aquatic vegatation and looking inside boats for who knows what. I don't encounter this where I fish so it all seemed a bit much.....that's a good term for it I guess. Not on my fish this one a lot list. Gonna try Thompson next, I can't resist a good smallmouth spot. Dave 1 Quote
shimanoangler Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I was in the Schoodic Lake area two weeks ago fishing and water levels were pretty low across the board (Sebec and a neighboring smaller body of water). Aside from navigation, launching boats has become a challenge, as you simply don't have enough dock length to float it off the trailer, hence you are getting wet these days to launch. I am heading to Wassookeag this coming week. I will report back on how the fishing is. Any where you recommend fishing on that lake?? This will be my first trip there for smallies. Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 The rip/rap on the sides where the bridge crosses right down from the launch area can be very good early throwing to them and working down into deep water. I've seen 3 1/2 lb fish come off of there, The rocky side of the island on the small side can be good also. It gets a lot of pressure but most are not fishing for bass. Good Fishing we are going down to river above Waterville and look for smallmouth also. Dave Quote

Tatsu Dave Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Well my Son and I are debating whether to go to Pishon Ferry at Hinckley and fish the Kennebec or to put in the Sabasticook at Benton and fish down river. Will decide in the morning and do one or the other. Yes the boat is patterned after the ones they use in the upper Susquehanna in Maryland below the tailrace in the rocks, I was schooled and educated on that stretch. We can launch in 18-20" and the prop is protected, as well as a high set troller to move us around. Quote

We fished it after a VERY heavy rain, so our guide took us on the Junianta River as well. We caught tons of fish on both rivers. It was a great two days of Smallie fishing, but we did it jet boats built to run the river at extremely low water levels... Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted September 2, 2020 Author Posted September 2, 2020 Yea the old Susky is world renowned for its fishing and runs from New York state down to the Bay. I used to live 30 min. away and fished it all the time. Above and below Conowingo Dam. Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Well that warm weather trend we had end of August and first week of Sept really caused a shutdown in the feeding bad where I fish. Same everything but the water temps jumped about 10-11 degrees on home waters and it got slowed down. This past week things started to cool again and we had some pretty good fishing 3 days during midweek. Large fish are cruising and feeding better as cool nights bring water temps down and there's still ocean run baitfish in the area 6-10" that came up fish ladders this spring. Caught some heavy fish on plastics in the shallows so things should only get better. Posted some pics in the fishing reports forum. Keep a tight line and stiff drag for next couple weeks Dave Quote
shimanoangler Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 A fish the new body of water today that I had never fished before and actually had a pretty good day. Fish scooter lake and although I still think the fish haven't gotten to true fall feeding as the water temps are still high sixties, they're starting to make that transition and they're feeding up. Every fish I caught from 10 in to three and a half pounds were thick with bellies. I think about two weeks from now if the nighttime temps continue to stay in the 40s and 50s will get water temps in the low 60s high 50s and I think things will really take off. Quote

I agree 100% the temps are dropping on the 10 day forecast with water temps sure to follow. Good Fishing Ahead! Quote
