I use fluorocarbon main line and was wondering if it weakened from heat eventually even though it s’more durable then mono as some say it does and others say it doesn’t, do you change it when it turns a milky color

Any line will deteriorate after extended exposure to the sun/heat. Not sure about the color changing thing but I’m guessing you mean the line doesn’t look clear anymore and looks somewhat used up. Follow your intuition, it’s probably time to change your line if it’s been on your reel for a while.

I've tested 6# Tatsu for 4 years and 6# Invisx for over 5 on spinning reels with no ill effects.  I left my stuff out in the sun, rain, and even in freezing conditions and in a hot car.  The only reason I stripped it off the spool was because it was getting to low on the spool to cast.

Gonna say this post mirrors my experiences pretty much, I've yet to have my tatsu line change color also (it does get dirty and stained from some water however). The fluro holds up a lot longer than mono and till the spool gets too low it continues to work as it should.

You seem to experience things no one else has happen to them. I have 4 year old red label on original spools and on reels, no issues.

That spool looks rough.  It definitely looks like your line is getting chewed up and is probably all nicked up.  Also check your line guides.

I will but what I don’t get is how a lot of the time i get snagged it breaks off easily but a catfish that was 6lbs but fought like it was in steroids didn’t break it

getting rod fixed Soon

I was mire interested in the color change for strength idc if fish see it as i use silver steel leader to senko and do just as good and caught more fish then my friends

i use it mainly for faster sinking rate

That spool lip looks like sand paper. Abrasion is what I have seen turn flourocarbon white like that.

I see in another post you bought Nanofil. Dont use Nanofil on a reel with a spool lip that looks that rough you will ruin the line real quick.

I don't know about your rod, but that spool is definitely going to degrade any line in short order.

You need to treat your equipment better. That spool and bail show signs of completely rough treatment. That reel will mess up any line.

New reel that bad reel is temporary until Christmas

I think it's time for a new reel and maybe some TLC on the rod and reel when transported and used.  It looks like it's been beat up in a boats rod locker.

From a post above...  I would also pass on the Nanofill.  I would look into Invizx or Trilene XL 100% FC.

The lip of your spool looks like a file. The bail looks a little rough as well. If it were my gear I would replace he spool and bail. if that costs too much try smoothing them with a 400 grit honing stone. That might be why you are having the feeling that your line is being shredded...it is.

Any line running over that spool lip is going to get abraded. Ya, you might be able to pull a fish out now and then, but I wouldn't use that reel at all unless you replace the spool.

The bail is also dinged up, but if the roller - which I can't see from that pic - is is good shape, it's not as big an issue.

I'd hit the hobby shop for 2000 grit polishing paper myself if you go that route.
