bueller Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I picked up this rod in a trade for a cheap $40 surf rod in 2006 and have recently been looking for some information on it but can't find anything. It says made in Houston Texas and the model is ES GT27ES and says VINTAGE on it. I have used it countless times and continue to love this rod. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I've found all kinds of info on these rods but not this particular model. See picture. Quote
garroyo130 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I use the 6'6" model of this rod for deep crankin. While its on the shorter side for my preference, it is an excellent rod. In fact its probably my favorite rod. I have used that rod for everything from topwater and crankbaits to single hook lures like jigs and spinnerbaits. In fact, it excelled as a jig rod. Here's some info I found. Not sure if this will be of much help. source: https://www.google.com/books/edition/Bass_Fishing_Basics_or_Everything_a_Bass/88trBwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=all+star+fishing+rods&pg=PA55&printsec=frontcover If you ever want to sell, give me a price. bueller Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Thanks for the reply. I've found info like you provided, I just couldn't find anything with the exact rod I have. Closest I found a picture of was the AC GT2 7 ES and it didn't say VINTAGE on it. It said AMERICAN CLASSIC in the area mine says VINTAGE. I'm kind of picky about my fishing equipment and this rod still looks like it was wrapped yesterday. Not really looking to sell it. It's one of my favorite rods Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 I'd get on the phone and call up All Star, see what they tell you. I might be mistaken but currently I think that All Star rods are exclusively distributed by Academy Sports. I know they make several different lines, besides the All Star Classic & All Star Team. At Academy Sports, I've bought some purple All Star Rods and a lime green All Star rod, they have some bright chartreuse ones, but I wouldn't have one of those, just didn't like the color. Quote
GReb Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 All star used to be a really good rod when the Crawford family owned them. But it was sold to Shakespeare around 2004 and are Chinese made now. The original all star rods were American made except the cork Quote
bueller Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 More or less, I just wanted to see if I could find out where this rod falls in the original American made group. Just seemed odd I could find info on all the others but nothing about this one. Quote

Even some of the ones that do not say made in Houston but have a solid plastic butt cap are good performers. Foam butt cap is another story. 3 minutes ago, bueller said: More or less, I just wanted to see if I could find out where this rod falls in the original American made group. Not really, but would be cool if I could. Mine does say made in Houston and it does have a solid plastic butt cap. Quote
