It’s the only knot I use for fluorocarbon which is the only line I use except for 2 presentations.

What lures are you trying to tie SDJ onto?

Thanks  for  replys , i will try  to  use  it. just  that  rapping around that gets  me  lol  line  hard to  feel

Putting a clothes pin over the eye adds weight and helps keep the bottom loop open.....I do this when I don’t have my glasses

When I decided to learn any number of knots, I just grab some line while sitting in front of the TV in the evening. After an hour, I can do it the next day with my eyes closed.  For SDJ, I keep each middle finger in the top and bottom loops, and do the twists with the other fingers and thumbs.  Pretty easy after just a little practice.

I'm working on this knot, since @roadwarrior called my knot ugly and hurt my feelings, I have to try something different. :)

Does anyone go through the eye and make a loop and go back through it? Just trying it and I like the idea of the line being doubled up.

For me, the SD knot works good on all types of line. Nowadays due to the meds I have to take, one side affect is my hands tend to shake like crazy, so a knot like the cinch or uni is much easier for me to tie, I just have to check them more often.

New to the site but not new to fishing. I've been using the SDJ offshore for tuna and other pelagics for years and it has never failed me. I find it easiest to tie if I hook the lure to something. When I bring the line back up to make the top loop, I hold the main line and the loop with my thumb and index finger and since the lure is secured I have a free hand and three fingers on the other to wrap the knot. Hard to explain in words but with this method I can tie it in about 10 or 12 seconds.

FRY , i like that idea ! that sounds easy for  me to  do sence hands don't work too good tieing knots.  i will be useing crankbaits, spinners, worms.i want to use this knot because i read that it is twice as strong as the palomar knot. thanks for all the responces.

You can definitely use it for other line types. I usually use the double SD knot for my larger swimbaits.

I use a knot that is similar to the San Diego Jam.  It is the Pitzen.  It is easy and quick.  I use it with all lines.  I even tie it with gloves on in the winter.

Hi SD Jam knot fans! I have never tied this knot, and fished it. Sitting on my couch, I find it quite easy to to tie.

My question is how many wraps around the two lines do you guys suggest with fluoro?

I use fluoro from 8lb-20lb line. I haven't been able to get out and fish for 10 days to be able to try it out.

Thx.

After I make my top loop I pinch it, grab the tag end and just spin the bait around 6 times. Go thru the bottom loop and back out the top loop the same way the main line goes in. Quick and easy.

6 turns with lines under 20 lb mono diameter.  5 turns for heavier lines

That is a Pitzen just doubling the line.  I don't double the line.  I do 5 wraps no matter the line type or size.  The difference between the SD Jam and Pitzen is the loop at the bait, Jam go through Pitzen don’t go through.

Too ugly.

My primary knot, especially for treble hook lures is the Pitzen...And it's pretty!
