TheNoviceFisher Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Hey guys, Lately fishing been so boring to me, but i never give up. I have a bait-casting setup (medium-heavy, 1/4-3/4 lure weight with 30 LB braid). I used crank baits, jig heads, flipping jigs, lipless crank baits and weighted hooks with a fluke and worms. This past week been so dry for me. Yesterday i said screw it and put on some live worms with a split shot to catch those small minnows so i can feel good about my self lol. What Rigs can i use so i can enhance my strikes/bites? I usually try one new rig every week, today is the day to try something new. Please give me some recommendations i really want to catch something or feel a bite atleast, yes i'm new to fishing and i love it. I fish in rivers, with weeds on bottom in most cases. I live in Montreal, Canada if that helps. I usually go after work to fish so around 5 pm until 9 pm Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 20, 2020 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2020 Try some 10 lb mono instead of braid and see if that helps. It’s hard to go wrong dragging a worm on the bottom Quote
garroyo130 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Live bait on a splitshot should catch them. It might be WHERE youre fishing, not what youre throwing. 2 Quote

I never know what's a good soft plastic worm to use, size wise and type wise. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 20, 2020 Super User Posted August 20, 2020 I don't think the issue is tackle, seems like location is the main thing. You have to find a place that has feeding fish. River environments are very dynamic, so you might want to scope out some other sites, and build a milk run of shore spots. There's no shortage of water or parks near Montreal, so it should take a little work looking at maps, and see what's accessible and close to you. 2 Quote

Super User NHBull Posted August 20, 2020 Super User Posted August 20, 2020 You have to find fish to catch fish. If all else fail, pull out the Ned and pray. 1 Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 Have you tried a weightless senko rigged weedless? If there are bass around they will bite this. Also if you have the money you should consider getting a spinning setup. Things like a Ned rig and a shaky head can really get you out of a jam. Doesn't need to be expensive either..can get into a decent budget combo around $100 here in the states..May be a little pricier in Canada. 1 Quote
Peddiesake Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 My local muni lake is highly pressured. Everyone throwing stikbaits for months and fish are on to it. Tied on an online blue fox spinner with a prism blade and decided to fish the middle of the lake. Had four bites and three fish. It was a hoot getting the rod jerked like a ton of bricks. 2 Quote
Jonas Staggs Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Once I went UL I never went back. I rather catch small fish than no fish. Downsize everything. I catch some nice bass on 1/16th oz. Jig. What's the biggest fish you catch? Maybe use same pound test line. I like 4,6,8 pound test. Small green is tail of tube jig. Maybe 3-4 lbs bass. Just my opinion and recent experience...I don't claim to be a expert 2 Quote
