I haven't thrown a chatterbait a lot, I usually throw a spinnerbait in the fall and spring but I am looking to maybe throw a chatterbait a little bit more. I have a number of rods that I could use, or I am open to trying something new. I know I would be better off just trying them out, but I am mainly trying to get an idea of what you guys would try. I will be throwing a 3/8 and 1/2 oz. I have a 6'8 MH-F Expride, 6'11M+F Poison Adrena, 7' MH-XF Curado and the following Zodias rods 6'10 MH-F, 7'2 M-F, 7'2 MH-F, 7'5 H-F. I will probably throw them on 14 or 16 lb Sniper.

I just bought the Zodias 7'2 M and I am thinking about trying it first. It isn't near as soft as my 6'10 MH Zodias' are.

I'm probably over thinking this, but I just read so many differing opinions.

Thanks!

Use whatever you consider a "jig rod".  The hook set requires the same power.

Thanks, that would lead me to believe the 7'2 H or 7'5 H would be better.

I don't know...MH covers a lot of ground. Whatever you choose, you already have it!

I use the same rod / reel for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits.

Those are my Zodias rods lol.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news here but one reason I sold all those Zodias rods was because I never could get a chatter bait to work right on them for me.

The 7’5”H was way too heavy/stiff even for 1/2 ounce. I don’t recommend it at all.

The 7’2” was ok for the 3/8 ounce, but I found the tip to be inconsistent for precise applications such as skipping.

IMO the 6’10” varieties are better but they weren’t my favorite.

My current setup for chatter baits is Falcon expert swim jig models and a 7’ Poison adrena M.

Seem like you have everything that you need at hands. All the rods you mentioned should work just fine. Even chatterbait use heavy wire jig hook but no weed guard to interfere so MH is enough to dive the hook in. In fact I just hooked one a couple night ago from 35-40 yds using 6’10 MH Daiwa Tatula.

For all the rod you have, i would pick Zodiac 6’10 and 7’2 MH/F.

BTW pair whatever rod with your Bantam MGL and you are into a joy ride.

Going to be trial and error as to what feels the best to you. I have 2 rods I fish chatterbaits on...1st is. 7" 4" MH/R Tatula Elite rod and the 2nd is a 7' 3" H/MS Glass Evergreen Combat stick JackHammer special rod. I prefer the more parabolic bend I get from these rods. I also use Tatula MH/R rods for swim jigs and spinnerbaits.

*I believe you will find a set up you like with one of the nice rods you have ... Chatterbait user's rods run the gamut from MH/F bait cast rods to M/M rods with a parabolic action .

I generally agree with the notion of whatever makes a good spinner bait rod for you will make a decent chatter bait rod.

That being the case - a couple of years ago I was in a pawn shop in Warsaw, Mo,  All the fishing rods available for sale were stuck in a 5 gallon bucket with a bungee around them to keep them from falling out of the bucket.  Most of the rods were clunkers but I found a mid 90's Diawa Light & Tough model 7', worming & jigging model.  Cork handle, silverish color next to the handle blending into white for most of the blank.  I bought it because it was relatively cheap and buddies that have owned or still own rods like that like them.  In my opinion, that rod is a terrible worm rod - way too much tip and not near fast enough action for my tastes.  I tried it out as a chatter bait rod and was very impressed, the too much tip that makes it a terrible worm rod, makes it a great reaction bait throwing rod, with ALOT of back bone.

I put an older Curado D on it ( the wider spool version of the Curado, but smaller than the 300 E by a lot) and for now my chatter bait issues are resolved.

I have that rod as well and it currently is used for 1/4 oz texas rigs. Might get another one if needed.

Thanks!

What do you throw on your 6'11" medium+ Adrena? I bought that rod this spring. In the spring I used it for jerkbaits. This summer I've been using it for Keitech's and lighter Texas Rig (14 lb Sniper).

I throw 3/16 oz texas rigs on my 6'11 M+

I bet it would make a good chatterbait rod as well, just didn't think about using it for a moving bait.

A friend of mine uses the zodias glass rod in mh I think. He loves it, silky smooth deep parabolic bend, with plenty of hook setting power. Those were his exact words. He throws a jackhammer 80% of the time with great success.

I have a 7'6 MH G Zodias but I think it might be a little bit much for a 3/8 and even a 1/2 is at the bottom end. I throw deep cranks on it and I don't think it would fit the bill.

On the other hand, the 7'2 MH G may just be the one. Oh the options.

I disagree that the bladed jig hookset is the same as a jig set.  Every bladed jig bite I've ever had has been a straight pull/rod just loads.  Maybe it's a northern largie thing but there is never a solid strike.  Because of that, I like a heavy glass rod.  I run a Dobyns Champ 736 glass and 17lb fluoro and it works really well for me.

That being said, it sounds like you have some sweet sticks in every size/action rod.  I would say try the Zodias glass.  I've been wanting to try one of those myself.

Hmm...

A sweeping hook set seems more appropriate for treble hooks. For single hooks I want a more powerful set.

Ya - trebles I do a sweep. Jigs - even bladed jigs - I do a 'heave'.

I fish bladed jigs a ton and use a 6' 9" H/F rod to do it. It's a big, single hook and bites are often on the end of long cast so I need a rod that will bury a hook.
