Super User Teal Posted August 19, 2020 Super User Posted August 19, 2020 Ok. So I've be intrigued by these rods for a while and I enamored by their huge following but even more but their very distinct lengths, actions and design intentions. Can someone help me make a little more sense out of them. I'm looking to upgrade a couple rods at a time. I've looked through the hook up, and tackle trap and they give decent descriptions of the rods, can yall tell me what rods you have, and what you use them for and what you think of them and are there better options out there even if it's a different brand. thunderblack Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Megabass makes a very quality rod in all their series. I personally have orochi XX and Valkyrie. I have also owned a lot of destroyers. As a whole package....balance, quality build, customer service, and great sensitivity I personally don't think you can top them. Sure nrx is more sensitive, yes Shimano and Daiwa have great rods in similar price points but when you buy a Megabass you are getting top quality. A least buy one and fish it! Quote
Super User NHBull Posted August 19, 2020 Super User Posted August 19, 2020 I have several and I believe the spinning rods are where the lines shine. On a side note I have a FMJ I will be putting up for sale soon. My GLX’s outperform all top end MB’s and is a rabbit hole I prefer Quote
Logan S Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Rather than type it out, here's a screenshot of my tackle sheet...I'm not coming out of the rabbit hole . This is all what I personally find them to excel at. Primary/Secondary means the rod is very good at it, Other means it's good enough, but probably better suited to a dedicated rod if you use that technique a lot. In terms of better options, I'm sure there are - All depends on budget and personal preferences...You can probably see one instance where I do prefer another brand though...The lone Daiwa . I've found the XX series to be one of the best price/performance values in higher end gear which is why I have so many of them. (In case anyone wonders...I keep this sheet mainly as an offseason boredom project, but it does help me decide to get or not get rods sometimes - Easy to see holes in the lineup this way) 3 Quote

I like their price but if it's a big step down, then who knows 1 Quote

I'd like to grab one eventually but not really in need of any new rods with those specs right now so I'll probably wait to find a deal on a used one. Quote

Seriously nice collection of quality rods, and a cool spreadsheet, although I would need to password protect that document. 1 Quote

That said they are still very nice rods, still plenty sensitive, balanced and built with uncompromising quality. So far, my favorite series is the Destroyer Evoluzion. I can't really explain why, but they just feel how I believe a rod ought to feel. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I’ve really been wanting a one ten special. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted August 20, 2020 Super User Posted August 20, 2020 I would buy several flat-side specials if I could. My favorite MB baitcaster Quote
Bandersnatch Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 If i'm not mistaken megabass has a cheat sheet for their rods and their primary & secondary uses on their website, at least for the destroyers Quote
