Brett's_daddy Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 What do you guys use for medium sized swimbaits (like 1.5 - 3.5oz.)? Straight braid? Braid to leader? Straight Mono/copoly? Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 25lb Sunline Defier Armillo Nylon for all swim, wake, glide between 1 1/2-6 oz. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 Same line as Tom, but in 19 lb ..For baits up to 3 oz. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I use 20 lb big game for my swimbait rod up to 3.5 oz and 15 lb big game for 1.5 oz baits. Quote
Super User Teal Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 20-25 big game. I have thrown smaller ones like 1 oz on 16 lb SNIPER floro and it works ok. Quote
VolFan Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 15 Lb CXX for everything up to and including Wake Jrs and Baby Possums. Tie good knots. Quote
Ogandrews Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I use 80lbs powerpro maxcuatro to a 20-40lbs leader, either big game mono or sun line fc100 floro. Don’t use normal floro for a leader for big baits your just asking for break offs, fc100 is stretchy like mono so it works amazingly well. For stuff under 3oz you should be fine with 65lbs braid but 80 gives you better insurance if you get a backlash that nothing is going to snap. Powerpro maxcuatro is the best casting braid I’ve ever used, 80lbs is smaller diameter than most other brands 65lbs. Also been trying the Diawa j x8 grand on one of my musky rods, smoothest braid I’ve ever used. It is much thicker than maxcuatro but casts and handles very well also, so much better than powerpro Superslick. Once you get to that 65-80 range stay away from regular powerpro, it gets very wiry at the higher strengths. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted August 19, 2020 Super User Posted August 19, 2020 20 lb P- Line CXX or Big Game Quote
Bass Rutten Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 20lb copoly, I’ve had sufix advance on two of my rods this entire season and have had zero issues, very happy with it after being a longtime p-line user. Slightly more sensitivity is a great bonus as well. Quote
Hewhospeaksmuchbull Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I use braid, most of my casts are along tullie choked bank. Don't think I'd get many baits back using Mono. Quote
bunz559 Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 I'm currently spooled with 20lb FC Sniper. Has worked great so far. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted August 26, 2020 15-20lb Pline CXX Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted August 26, 2020 Super User Posted August 26, 2020 I use Pline PF original in 20 and 25lb for swinbaits. 20 for what you're doing. Its not as strong as big game but the line management is night and day better. Some of the best handling line I've found period besides braid. And its fairly cheap so I can respool often if I'm fishing a lot. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 I use 15# big game or 15# suffix advanced copoly for smaller swims. Up to 8 ounces i use 20# Big game leaders on 50# braid. 1 Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 40# braid to 17# big game or 20# big game depending on cover. Bottom bairs get the heavier line and a longer leader, wakes and glides get 17. Quote
