Ohioguy25 Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I paddle the river and fish most of it from my kayak, but there is one beach with just the perfect set of rapids that I always stop at and fish a good 2-3 hours. I have a great chair and clip on umbrella but find I am constantly looking for a place to put my pole when I catch a fish, am baiting my hook or tying a new one. I find myself sticking it into the space beneath the armrest but it usually ends up falling to the ground. Any suggestions? I really like my chair and would prefer to simply modify that rather than buy a “fishing chair” which I found very few had rod holders anyway. Thanks! Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 Cut a piece of 2" pvc pipe, around 12" to 15". Glue a pvc cap on one end. Get a 12" bungee and strap it to your chair. A friend who fishes for catfish made some like this year's ago, and they still work well for him. 2 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted August 19, 2020 Super User Posted August 19, 2020 There’s rail mount rod holder from RAM and Scotty that are easy to find, but you’ll probably have to do the homework. Instead of mounting the rod holder to a rail on a boat, you’re mounting it to a chair. 1 Quote

Jonas Staggs Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I'd duct tape, screw, or zip tie a piece of pvc to it 2 Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 That is a neat BPS fishing chair, a little bit of overkill, but kinda neat. By the time you've purchased all the parts, considering also shipping & your time- to re-create that chair I suspect you will have more than a c-note into the project, so go ahead and buy the chair - or don't. As mentioned in a prior post, a piece of pvc pipe, can be attached to the chair you already own with duct tape or zip ties - problem solved. Should you decide to re-create the chair - don't just stop there. Go ALL OUT. Think about adding a radio & antenna, a phone charger, built in thermoelectric cooler, integrate a solar array into your umbrella to power it all, and/or get one of those high tech gel cell batteries, like they have on the space station. Maybe inflatable cushions on the back & seat, should the stretched out polyester get uncomfortable. Maybe some kind of flexible selfie stick, so you could mount your tablet and stream a couple of movies between bites (you're going to be there for a few hours anyway) You've got a chance to go all Tom Swift on this chair - don't pass it up. 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 Reminds me of one of the funniest days fishing I've ever had. My friend and I took his dad fishing. His dad had just got a fishing chair for birthday. We got to the lake and he set up his new chair around a foot into the water. He told us he was practicing at home casting while sitting in the chair. We'll his first cast the front legs of the chair which he didn't know were sitting on the edge of a large rock, slipped off the edge causing him to go face first into the lake. He came up cursing because his glasses went flying into the water but then we notice as he was cussing that he also lost his top denture. We laughed so hard we almost peed ourselves. 2 Quote

Actually I was able to do it for $37 shipped from Amazon, already had the fishing rod holder by Scotty. I would’ve just bought the chair but I have one I really like that matches my kayak. Quote
