The rivalry and game itself is called “the third Saturday in October” but it’s had to be a week off a few times over the years. I think only the Georgia/auburn rivalry is older as far as SEC games, I’m surprised they moved it early into the season but a lot of shuffling had to be done I guess 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 19, 2020 Super User Posted August 19, 2020 Just don't be too disappointed if the season shuts down. Half of the college football venue has already. ? 1 Quote

I always looked forward to that game. And LSU plays Ole Miss as their last game while Tennessee gets Florida. Who came up with this schedule?????? VolFan Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 We'll beat you at your place in week 2. New season, hope springs eternal... Its also nice that we don't have to play Florida around my birthday this year, maybe I can enjoy it (the birthday). The game will still be painful, even in December. 2 1 Quote

The SEC could have retained the usual set of conference ending games with the opponents we are used to seeing play each other like Bama/Auburn, LSU/A&M, Ole Miss/State, etc. But at least the SEC will play. The Big 10 and PAC 12 still have time to change their minds. The guys on Sirius' ESPN's College Sports radio have said that the Big 10 commissioner's son plays for Missysippy State and he is being allowed to play while his father shuts down the Big 10. Go figure. Quote

Super User gim Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 The SEC is only doing this for money. I think that the only football that is going to be played this season is the NFL. They are the only level of football that has the money, resources, and facilities to pull it off. I think it will look a lot like MLB does with frequent outbreaks and no fans. Quote

Entire communities all over the south build their economy around football, so yes they are doing it for money. You have to have money to buy food 4 Quote

It’s gonna take a lot to stop football in the south. 2 Quote

Super User Koz Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 Scheduling college football during the pandemic is nothing but a money grab. I'm sure they will find a way to play basketball as well. But any other college sport is out of luck. We've already seen a number of universities permanently disband their baseball programs. My fear is that colleges will use the pandemic as a spring board for wholesale permanent cancellation of most college athletic programs. This is going to be devastating to countless athletes. I played hockey in college and also made the baseball team as a walk on. I was nowhere near good enough to sniff the possibility of a pro career, but I played for the love of the game and to represent my school. I will always cherish those memories. Sadly, many student athletes may never get that opportunity. 2 Quote

State Alabama South Carolina Auburn A&M I guess with the addition of two SEC teams to the list they had to make it different. I like the rivalry games at the end of the season. LSU's two biggest rivals are Bama and Ole Miss. LSU is starting a love/hate relationship with A&M. And then there is always Arkansas lurking around somewhere. The season will be fun with lots of good games. Hope the Vols can do well and beat Bama. 1 Quote

Football and basketball are the only sports that make money and that money is what funds all the other sports like hockey, swimming, etc. Without football season this year, I imagine a lot of smaller sports with have to temporarily be shut down. So the “money grab” is exactly what they need Quote
