Chonch12 Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 So long story short this has been my 1st summer I really dove head first into Bass fishing. This includes my 1st baitcaster and using a variety of techniques and new lures groups compared to a Senko or Ned Rig. I am not looking for your "Secret set up", I am just continuing to find more techniques to try and expand my fishing knowledge as I walk the banks. So far this year I think I have caught fish using at least 8-10 new techniques (actual techniques like Dropshot, Tokyo Rig, Rage Rig, Wacky to name a few ) which is really fun and exciting. I really concentrated on trying a bunch of new ways even if I had no confidence and was quite surprised by a few. One that jumped out to me was the "Rage Rig" specifically with a Space Monkey. This rig has out fished every other creature rigging I have tried. What I found interesting was I stumbled upon this rigging while reading up on Space Monkeys (something else without much info out there). It is simply putting a creature on a weighted Swim Hook. Gives it a different looking fall. But no one really talks about it much, at least with what I have found reading and watching YT. What are some lesser known techniques that you like to use, and/or lures? Quote

Super User Teal Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 I'm still throwing the double fluke rig...great in the fall. I have even modified it a few ways.. I also been throwing baby brush hogs on 3/0 1/8oz weighted hooks for aboutn15 years... great on a spinning rod and 10lb braid. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 Topwater weedless spoons. Most folks have gone to toads and frogs to fish over thick weeds. I still like the Johnson Silver Minnow, and a white Heddon Moss Boss. 2 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Float n Fly. More of a fly fishing technique but basically a small jig head and aoft plastic under a bobber. Usually catch dinks but also caught some good solid fish on it. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 Slip shot rig...think small Carolina rig with a cylinder weight. Never seen anybody where I'm from use it. Works well in mid summer hot water. 4 Quote

Not a slip shot rig...but I said in thread yesterday that I am guilty of putting a shorter leader on a standard c rig, and pitching it to cover and grass. Works really good with flukes, senkos, and baby brush hogs. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 Been having a good laugh with the recent Senko threads... ...which leads me to two of my favorite less popular lures/rigs: Flick Shake and Slider rig 4 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 I also forgot to mention the Slider rig. I like the Spider Slider head, and the Snagless head, rigged on several different 4" to 5" plastic worms. I havnt seen anyone at my local lake using them. The few guys that I've shown it to, have never heard of it. 1 Quote

They actually started out with bass baits, before making crappie stuff, way back in the early 1970s. Slider 4" worm, and Slider head jigs. There's so much new stuff out there now, lots of guys probably don't know about them. They still work well. 1 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Man, this is GOOD STUFF! I started really fishing in the early 90's when I moved to Missouri. Co-worker was from Texas / Alabama and taught me a ton about bass fishing. Back in those days we didn't have youtube or message boards...I fished pretty hard until my daughters got in to sports...then it was all hands on deck as they played, practiced, school events, etc. (went well...older daughter took home two state championships in softball, two runner up in softball, and state title in basketball. Younger daughter was on one of the softball title teams). I just got back in to fishing a week ago when I pulled the old boat out of storage...found this board and have been reading I disagree off! Nice to see new techniques, and some old faithful that have served me well many years ago (7" texas rigged worm, swimming jigs, Slug-Go, spinner baits). I must have lived under a rock for the past 15 years...what the hell is a pinch rig, Senko, drop shot, slider rig (again, thank God for google and youtube!) Go get yourself some Slug-Go's...My largest bass ever (8 lbs) was caught on a rainbow trout Slug-Go. Enjoy! Quote
Ogandrews Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Stroking a small tube on a heavier head. Works especially well for smallmouth. Even when your not stroking it I feel like most people overlook 2.5-2.75” tubes, such killer baits. 1 Quote
