Wacky rig hook

What is your favorite hook for wacky rigging?  I have used a VMC wacky rig hook for years until someone recommended a VMC neko hook instead.  I was able to keep more fish from jumping off so I think I'm gonna continue to use them.

I now use the NEKO hook for wacky and DS.  They always seem to find the roof of the mouth

I use the VMC weedless Neko hook for wacky rig!

Have had great success with Gamakatsu Split/Drop shot hooks from 4 to 2/0,

with 1 and 1/0 the sweet spot for me. Also use the Wide Gap Finesse in same

range. Have tried Hyabusa from TW, while sharp, found the muscle models to

break. Tried other brands, always seem to return to Gammy.

I also started to use Neko hook for wacky rig as well. I’m in still process of trying.  I tried Mustad weedless Neko hook, and VMC Neko hook will try Gamakatsu B10S and other after I’m done with VMC. All 1/0 and #1 size. 

I like my hook to be a little thinner than Mustad/VMC for better hookset.

I'm an advocate of octopus circle hooks. I snell them for wacky rigs. No gut hooked fish, I very rarely will loose a fish and they're easy to remove. Like waiting to set the hook with a topwater, the reel set with the rod at 10:00 or 11:00 takes a little getting used to. They're great hooks for teaching kids, too.

Ditto on the VMC Neko hooks. I used VMC wacky, weedless wacky, some Mustads and I forget what else in a long parade of trying to find something where I wasn't missing fish constantly. The VMC Nekos aren't perfect, but they do really well and for whatever reason they do a lot better than any other hook I tried.

 

For the record, I've had really good luck with them as a drop shot hook too.

I also use a 1/0 octopus or a 1/0 circle hook. these keep fish pinned.

 

Never gut hooked a bass with these.

I like the owner wacky rig hooks with or with out weed guard.  BeforeI was just using octopus circle hooks but, after training my self for 2 years to set the hook it’s hard to not set the hook.  Hook up percentage went up with using a hook designed for wacky rig

It took me a few times, but I soon figured out to reel in the slack until the line is tight and the bass sets the hook itself. Normally in the roof of the mouth or the corner of the jaw. IMO, it lessens the chance of missing hooksets that way. 

 

I started with circle hooks, but I think octopus hooks have a more positive hookset and I find them easier to rotate and remove. And those Gammy octopus hooks are seriously sharp!

I started wacky rig fishing with VMC wacky hooks (weedless and open) but have since made the switch to Gamakatsu B10S hooks in a size 1 and 1/0. They are my favorite. They're very similar to the VMC neko hooks.
