Today I was able to safely release a bass that was hooked deep thanks to the advice I got from the Bass Resource team.  I cut the hook with a side cutter, turned it and pulled it out backwards.  The fish swam off with minimal damage thanks to the knowledge I got here at BR.  Thanks yall!

Welcome.

And yes, you can gather lots of good suggestions regarding your bass fishing to make you a better angler by asking questions and then adding your input to the queries of others.

I guess I have been doing it wrong. I always cut the hook between the line tie and the bend. Then reach up through the gills with needle nose pliers to pull the hook straight out.

You don't have to cut the hook. Sometimes I don't even cut the line. If you take a pair of needle nose and reach up through his gills (carefully) you can usually grab ahold of the hook and turn it upside down that way. Pops right out!
