BriBass Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 So im 19 and need a little boat to get me from place to place and i cant go spend $10,000 while paying for school and a truck.. so with the help of everyone here and also this link.. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1206322448 I have decided me and a buddy are going to modify our own boat and put a deck up, carpet and trolling motor etc...the whole nine yards.. But just a couple questions.. Which boats are better for this project for stability? Are jon boats better? which boats are ones to stay away.. I've seen that the 14" boats are working well and people love them.. Any other tips when purchasing a boat? Thanks in advance BB Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted April 17, 2009 Super User Posted April 17, 2009 are you planning on this boat being on a trailer or are you loading this boat in the back of your truck? if you can pull this boat on a trailer you can go crazy with a 14' jon boat. LBH has a sticky thats a blueprint for a boat that does everything but break the bank. i wouldnt spend any money on a boat you had to haul in the back of a truck. Quote
BriBass Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 No, i will have it wih a trailor on the back.. yea 14 foot jon boats are nice.. Anyone else with suggestions? Thanks BB Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted April 17, 2009 Super User Posted April 17, 2009 I love my 14ft jon, I will say is go for the widest bottom you can get. The wider they are the more stable, also when planning out the desk watch how high you make it the higher it is the less stable. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 18, 2009 Super User Posted April 18, 2009 Go bigger than 14 feet -- especially if you'll be fishing with someone else on the boat for the majority of the time. I have a 1548 now and I love the boat. I do, however, wished I went for the next model up -- a 1654. Go with a welded, mod-V bottom jon and not a flatbottom. If you like the 14, go for it. But that extra foot or two on the 15 or 16 footer adds a LOT more room. Quote
