Line size for dobyns fury 735c

What leader line size would you use using braid to leader on a fury 735c? Feeling comfortable not breaking off on jig hooksets.  the rod is mag heavy with a good tip

 

Using 40 or 50lb braid. The Mono/floro is for fishing wood and rocks. Or clear water pitching jigs

 

Also was thinking of trying straight mono/ floro and thinking 17 would be good, maybe 20

 

I really like stren original so was thinking 17 or 20. But is there another low price mono with smaller diameter that will go better through the guides?    Thanks

I certainly wouldn’t use mono!!

or even a leader for that matter. 
All tho there are many on here who use just that. 
They’ll be along shortly 

 

For fishing in those conditions I use 20# Sunline Shooter, and have for years and have no reason to change.

I’d use 20lb Red Label, or your preferred fluoro

I would not use a leader I personally would fish 15lb big game mono or 50lb braid if I’m around a lot of grass

*What kind of jigs ? For rocks & wood I would try P-Line CXX co-poly  in #15 lb. to #17 lb. This line can handle quite a bit of abuse !

1/2 - 3/4 oz siebert jigs arkie and football. I like a good strong hookset for weedless jigs, and I know you can't beat braid for that, but really like the stretch factor and invisibility and abrasion resistance of a mono or flouro. Currently the strongest leader I had was 14 lb and 16 lb and I broke the 14 once on a Hookset but I think it was a log possibly a pike that I set into,  really interested in what pound test for the braids to leader.

I love this stuff. It handles abrasive docks and rocks with aplomb. It's very shock resistant on hard hook sets in cover as well. You don't want it to spool up because it does develop memory. But for a leader 6 ft or less it is amazing.

Tie your 50-lb braid to the eyelet of your frog...Done.

The next time I incorporate a leader with a hollow frog, will be my first time.

I use straight 50# no leader

If I'm fishing in the salad, I usually don't bother about a leader, that is a nuisance I reserve for clear water where the fish are actually going to see my presentation, when you pull in as much or more veggies with every catch as the fish weighs I don't feel it really matters

Agreed. But I was talking about jigs. It's clear pressured water. Docks, big rocks, lots of big laydowns, and thick grass. I will be using other setups most of the time but want to throw a big jig for some bigger bites. Last time I was using 50lb braid with no bites. The spinning rod with nearly the same jig just super finesse with 15lb braid to 10lb mono caught 20 bass. I know it has somthm to do with the weight of the jig as well.  This would be my fist time experimenting with a leader and I'm kind of leaning away from it.

 

I guess what I'm on the search for now is finesse jigs with a lighter hook that I can throw with my 704c. 15lb floro? 

 

Or maybe just straight 20 lb on the 735c........

Theirs no reason you can't run 40-50lb braid with a 17-20lb leader on the 735. If your concerned with the leader knot just practice tying it at home until your confident you can tie it properly or go straight flouro.

 

On my 704 I usually run 40lb braid to a 12-15lb leader using an FG. I throw 3/8 on this setup. The Siebert Arky is one of them.

I have multiple Fury 735's

 

All with 8:1 Fuego CT's on them, all spooled with 50lb Daiwa X4 J-Braid

 

For Jig and T-rig work, I use 15lb and 20lb Seaguar Red Label for leaders. 15 for lighter cover, 20 for heavy.

 

For punching, and frogging, braid tied straight to the bait/hook.

 

The 735 is a swiss army knife of a rod, I flip 5/16-1oz jigs and T-rigs with it, frog, c-rig, drag big football jigs around, cast and reel wobble heads, fish big chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, and more with it.
