Super User clayton86 Posted August 15, 2020 Super User Posted August 15, 2020 Applied for my permit here in my county in NY. Got my class to get my permit scheduled for the 26th of this month then hopefully get the approval and my permit shortly after that. been weighing out what to get my first pistol and leaning heavy on getting the p365. been watching tons of YouTube videos on it but wondering what y’all’s personal experience is with it. some others in considering is the p938, Taurus g2c, Kimber micro 9. not new to guns by any means but pistol wise recent experience is with the beretta m9 from in the army. Other than that growing up my best friends dad was and still is a big HK guy so grew up shooting his USPs I think they were I can’t remember exactly it was 20 years ago but I know they were HK. I work in a shop handling all the ones I’m considering every day I work which is also why I’m looking at them for the employee discount, it’s not much 15% on guns but definitely helps with the purchase Quote
Super User NHBull Posted August 15, 2020 Super User Posted August 15, 2020 Clayton, you will run out of money before good options, and I would add the Shield 9mm to the list. Reliability, Accuracy and Comfort make it a great everyday carry 2 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 15, 2020 Author Super User Posted August 15, 2020 We do carry the shield 9 sell quite a few also. I’ll fondle it some more today when I go in in about a hour. There’s another gun shop bout 10-15 minutes down the road from our store that has a indoor range so you can try before you buy. I might run down there when time comes test a few see how I like em then purchase from our store. 1 Quote

I have been carrying one everyday IWB for 5+ years now, and it eats everything I feed it, and being strapped to the side of a fat sweaty farmer/bass fisherman/garbage truck driver it's no worse for the wear.....the same can't be said for my buddy's XDS, it looks like a rust bucket. I have a Gen 1....and up until the recent panic buying nonsense, they could be had for $300 or less if you shopped around. When you get your permit, I'll meet you at the firing pin if you want...I'm a member and you can shoot mine. 2 Quote
GReb Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Few years back I picked up a gen 1 shield for $230 brand new. It’s a great shooting gun. I’m sure the Sig is great too but double the cost. Not sure it’s double the gun 1 Quote
Smells like fish Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I've had the Shield for about 6-7 years in .40. I have shot the 365 in 9mm. I would go for the Sig as long as it has a manual safety as does my Shield. I've never had a hiccup from the Shield but Increased mag capacity gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I also keep a b.u.g. LCP in my pocket for fun. when the weather gets colder and the option for carrying something bigger while in town or in the woods my Beretta 92 with 18+1 9mm would be nice. Just get those 3 ? Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted August 21, 2020 Super User Posted August 21, 2020 I have a 365 and love it. I'd guess it's got nearly 1K rounds through it without a hitch. I find recoil manageable, and accuracy is good for a defense gun. I own HK's, Sigs, and SW revolvers. I'm 6', 180 lbs, so micros are easier for me to conceal. In cooler seasons I carry a HK P30SK. My 'regular' carry piece is a 340PD, and the 365 my second favorite. I recommend it for a carry gun. Quote
GTN-NY Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Just shot a 365 tonight. I liked it. Shot well, nice tigger, easy to conceal. The only reason I’d add a 365 to my carry is if I really needed a small gun that holds 10 rounds as I’m in NY also. I’m a Glock guy so that says a lot that I liked the Sig. I have 3 G19‘s and 2 G43’s. I’ve had others but I like these the best. 98% of the time I carry the 19. I’d highly recommend trying as many different kinds as possible before you buy. 1 Quote
Shimano_1 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Used to be a glock guy. Fine guns but ive just grown out of favor with them. Grip is not comfortable to me and too many options for a lot less money. Own a couple g2c, shield and a Springfield hellcat. You won't find a better pistol for the money than the g2c. Everyone i know owns one and no problems with any. The shield is probably overall my favorite but I find myself packing the hellcat for the capacity in such a small gun. I'm sure the 365 is a fine one too just don't have any experience with it. Quote

We carried the g2c at work and it went on sale last week 219.91 for one but being that it was a .91 ending means they were on clearance not to be stocked again. We haven’t had any hellcats in and with the way things are doubt we will anytime soon. Shields fly off the shelf also except the ez in 45 though a customer was asking for it 2 weeks ago and we didn’t have it and as he was buying the ez 9 the 45 version was being delivered and logged into the system. He might buy it if the boss(wife) let’s him when he comes in to pick up his 9. Way NY works can’t leave with the gun until you have a coupon from the county for it only 1 county near me gives em out blank, the others you gotta buy the gun we’ll all but a dollar get a sales slip then go turn it in and get it added to permit. Once done with that they give you a coupon to come and get the gun. Quote
Super User Teal Posted September 7, 2020 Super User Posted September 7, 2020 Are you a fan of the XD by Springfield. I have 3 of them. I I have compact gen 1 in 40, subcompact in 9m gen 2, and I had the XD Slim in 45, I traded a guy for his xD Slim in 9Mm. Kimber, sig and Smith all make good weapons. I used to carry a M&P when I was in law enforcement. It's a good comfortable weapon. Quote

Any of the ones listed will likely serve you well. I like the taurus in that its a quality pistol and leaves me some $ for fishing lol. Taurus had a bad rap for a long time but between me and my buddies we probably have 20 and none have had any issues at all. Quote

Yeah we were considering it over last winter before buying this house we’re in now. My kids from first marriage are here in NY and I couldn’t pick up and leave as much as I hate this state. Luckily the county I live in is pretty good about pistol permits they have a semi fast turn around once submitted and they give blank coupons so once I’ve got my permit the clerk asks how many I want and she just hands em over. All that does really is let’s me walk out of store with said gun on the spot then I’ve got 10 days to turn in the receipt to have it added to my permit. But yeah NY sucks the big one when it comes to guns mags on the AR have to be pinned or it be “feature less” meaning no pistol grip, flash hider, collapsible stock, etc. basically like Ca. Then there’s the stupid 10rnd mag but can’t fully load it have to stop at 7....yeahhhhh. Anyways gotta stop before getting political but yes NY sucks and I wanna move but not gonna happen till kids are out of school and my youngest starts kindergarten next week so I’m stuck here for a while Quote

Today I had 5 pistol sales well finished 5 of the ones that came back with coupons all were Genesee county that were in before I started today(1-930 for me) went to the county clerk and added same day. 1 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Super User Posted November 21, 2020 Well I got my permit on my birthday which was cool. I picked up the 365 and a lcp2 in 22lr. So far love the 365 I’ve got about 500 ends through it for the 2 weeks I’ve had it. Changed the trigger on it already for the flat one that’s comes on the 365xl. Ordered a few different holsters for it so far I like the alien gear one the best I got the alien gear appendix holster. Got a MFT one, versacarry and veder. Not a fan of the veder really the cow hide is to think and stiff I’ve been leaving the gun in it at night to break it in but once I draw from it it collapses and I can’t reholster it with out fingering the holster or digging with the gun which both are a no no. nick76 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 That P365 is a nice gun. I had the opportunity to grab one a couple of weeks ago and opted to pass. The price on them has skyrocketed in the last 6-8 months. They have become one of the new "hot" pistols to buy. Probably be able to grab one used for a good price in a year or so. They shoot well and there are so many configurations you can change with them to customize. Just couldn't get past the price. Quote

We have them at our shop the 365Tacpac it comes with 3 mags all with the pinky extension a hard carry case and a holster. We list them for $599.99 can’t keep em on the shelves. I get a employee discount the sig after taxes and everything ran me $519 for the tac pac. I’ve seen prices at other local shops and they are outrageous for any gun and ammo lately. Part of working for a big chain store we can’t jack prices. Some guns have gone up but not much the ruger LCPII I bought a day late because the price went up $16 the day before I bought it lol Quote
