Esox pro Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I got a new trion 30 the other day and its spooled up but whenever i pull line from the drag it sounds like its fraying the line I was wondering if anyone knew what caused this as it is happening in one of my other reels 2
waymont Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 It sounds like it's fraying the line, or it is fraying the line?
Esox pro Posted August 14, 2020 Author Posted August 14, 2020 It is i can see it and hear it is it because my drag is too tight
Super User JustJames Posted August 14, 2020 Super User Posted August 14, 2020 Why don’t you post some pictures of line being frayed from just pull out from reel. I have seen you post a few time about this issue. Sometime described is not as accurate.
Esox pro Posted August 14, 2020 Author Posted August 14, 2020 Nearly converted the video to show you but i can hear a pop like sound when i comes off the reel is this a problem or am I being paranoid and got a bad spool
Esox pro Posted August 14, 2020 Author Posted August 14, 2020 Tight but enough so i can pull it out with some force Looking for video file converter
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 All a drag does is provide limited slip under pressure. Line can only fray from contact with a rough surface: a chipped guide ring, a dinged spool lip, retrieve through cover like wood, rock and worst of all zebra mussels. 2
Super User JustJames Posted August 15, 2020 Super User Posted August 15, 2020 I guess I know what he meant by “Fraying”. it just the sound of line being pull out in tight drag where it crushed each other. You can just upload to YouTube and link to that video here
VolFan Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 What kind of line and how tight did you spool it? Loosely spooled mono or hybrid and a tight drag and you will hear a crackly crunchy sound as you pull as the loops tighten and moved around loops under them on the spool. Have you used the reel yet?
Esox pro Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 Made like 5-10 casts I also found the spool to be bad and am contacting bass pro Line spool
Esox pro Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 Oh shoot your right This is how i spool line
Super User JustJames Posted August 15, 2020 Super User Posted August 15, 2020 It seems like you are so proud of that line spooling station. I saw you posted this video a couple time. I wouldn’t say it is a gimmick, but that guy might also be sponsored by the company. There are two most recommended way of spooling spinning reel. From tackle shop which line goes in straight but cast out twisted, or behind running boat which line goes in twisted but cast out straight. No matter what both way will not stop line twisted overtime. you will have to manage or clear twisted every once awhile. A spinning reel with good line roller bearing would help line twisted more than that tool, my .02. I spool line just like baitcaster no tool need but line come out from under spool instead of all top. This way I can apply pressure across the whole length of spooling (I’m not sure how you keep pressure on that tool)
Esox pro Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 I really like it what he says make since have had less tangles but am beginning to think maybe its not putting enough tension on it so i have to do that myself in which this is the first time I have had a problem

It is not fraying just crushing sound when you pull line from tight drag and line try to dig in. There is nothing wrong with your line or spool either I believe.
Esox pro Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 Good news and bad news i took off all the line and tried to respool it bad news is chunk of it gone from knot

It still spool in with twisted line unlike what he claimed. As side note never strip the line off spinning reel without tension. You either walk it off on water/grass or tie one end to station objects. Once the twisted line bundle up, it will be hard to fix.
Esox pro Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 I just put my reel in table on deck open bail and walk to the end of my backyard with the line and this is the first time I have had a problem
Esox pro Posted August 15, 2020 Author Posted August 15, 2020 To be fair the line had all sorts of nicks which always form knots
Esox pro Posted August 16, 2020 Author Posted August 16, 2020 To be 100% honest if your line is kinked that is where the tangles cone from as the line will want to be in a loop like possible and is where all of my tangles come from

Esox pro Posted August 16, 2020 Author Posted August 16, 2020 Well luckily reel wasn’t problem It turned out to be bad batch and wasnt on tightly
