Senko hooks sizes

Does anyone have a specific hook size and brand for wacky rig without weed guard and texas rig hook that i can get a lifetime supply off

All I have ever used is a Gammie EWG 3/0 and 4/0 for my Texas rigs and a Gammie EWG 2/0 for wacky.

Do you plan on using the same worms forever too?  I wouldn't get a lifetime supply because I change sizes and styles depending on the situation.  For texas rigging I usually use owner or gamakatsu 4/0 and 5/0 ewg's.  For wacky rigging I usually use gamakatsu octopus style 2/0 and 3/0.

I use Gamakutsu 1/0 octopus hooks for WR and 3/0 or 4/0 EWG for T rigs.

@Esox pro, Owner SSW or Gamakatsu 2/0-5/0 hooks for wacky rigs and your favorite 4/0-5/0 worm hook for Texas rigs. A good file will help keep ‘em sharp, especially if you fish around rock AND save you money in the long run.

I always use 5inch senko and use it starting when the erie canal is filled until its drained which means dreaded trout season starts

I just want better hooks of good quality that will also work for live bait and egg sacks ideally cheap and if possible barbless because i removed a hook from a gut hooked bass properly and it still didn’t make it and i feel terrible 

Ive heard of lots of people saying gamukatsu splitshot/drop shot hooks in size 2 and found 100 for a decent amount

I prefer octopus vs dropshot hooks for weightless Senkos. Not sure of the physics, but I think when reeling in the slack the octopus turns and hooks better than a dropshot hook. And I feel they offer better protection against gut hooking if swallowed deep.

Tackle warehouse sell Gamakatsu in 100 packs, if that is not enough maybe call manufacturer they might be able to sell you in 1000 or 10,000 packs.

4/0 ewg for 5” senko

2/0 ewg for 4” and other trickworm

1/0 Finesse wise gap for wacky rig.

1/0 B10s for Neko rig which can also be use when wacky rig.

There was this guy who said for texas rig who said to to match the /0 number to the length of bait for instance 5/0 for 5 inch 4/0 for a 4 inch bait ect what do you guys think of that and is there a hook size for each everyone can agree on that i can buy in bulk pack ideally barbless

That's not a bad idea. I'd suggest experimenting with that and adjusting as needed. Maybe start with a 25 pack of each (EWG 3/0, 4/0, 5/0; Offset roundbend 3/0, 4/0, 5/0). Keep them in the package at home and just take a few with you on each trip (that way the whole pack has less chance of rusting out on you)

 

In terms of completely barbless...I'm not sure. I'll bet they are out there, but I haven't run across them. Gut hooking sucks and takes some time to get the hook out. I'll usually go through the gill plate, rotate the hook backwards, and the slide it out. Hard to explain, but there's some videos out there to demonstrate.

 

For me personally, I use Gamakatsu roundbend hooks for texas rigging worms. I don't worry much about the "correct" size hook; 5/0 for 10 in worms, 4/0 for 5-7 inch worms, 3/0 for everything else. I use EWG hooks for beaver style baits and other bulky creature baits.

 

For wacky rig, I fish almost exclusively with 5 inch senkos and always use a size 1 Gamakatsu B10 S. I used the Octopus hooks when I first started fishing wacky worms, but I haven't looked back after switching to those B10 S hooks.

@Esox pro,  regarding wacky rigging using the previously mentioned octopus style hooks;                                                        
                   2/0 or 3/0 for a 5” senko (which I don’t throw very often)

                   3/0 or 4/0 for a 6” senko 

                   5/0 for a 7” senko

If you want to narrow it down to 2 hooks, a #1 Gamakatsu B10 stinger works well for 4" and 5" senkos wacky rigged, and a 2/0 EWG will work well with both texas rigged.

 

Personally I prefer:

For Weightless wacky and Neko rigging

2/0 B10 for 6"

1/0 B10 for 5"

#1 B10 for 4"

 

For T-rigging

 

4/0 EWG for 6"

3/0 EWG  for 5"

1/0 EWG for 4"

 

But I understand not wanting to have to buy or carry a wide array of hooks. You'll do just fine with the two I mentioned first.
