Very hard to beat the MB Addermine, but it’s a tad expensive

I am considering a Light action casting rod lately. I am considering having something built. I am thinking along the lines of a Phenix Iron Feather blank 7'1" EX Ln. 1-7, lure 1/16-3/8, Titanium with SiC guides etc. Or maybe something built on a Walleye spinning blank of some sort. Still working it out I guess.

Maybe I'll try making it myself, but then again I don't it think it would be a wise move to build my first rod on a $200 blank, so...

Kuying makes a casting version of the rod I described, it’s well renowned in the bfs word. Teton 662c. Check Ali express, they’re about $60

Thanks, I've been sort of eyeing those up as well. A lot of guys seem to really like them. And 6'6" is right in my comfort zone for length.

I think that what is holding me up there, and I should probably be ashamed of it, is that it seems a waste of a good opportunity to add another MegaBass or the like since I've already pretty much convinced myself that I "need" another rod.

I have also been thinking of the Adermine which has been mentioned too. I have been neglecting my spinning gear for a long while, and I've been thinking of getting something fairly nice there. I'm also drawn to the 6'8" UL Poison Adrena, 6'5" F0 World Shaula, Legit Design Wild Side 6'8" L/MF, and I'm liking the Major Craft MS-X Limited 6'4" XF solid tip more and more all the time......Ah, So much great gear...never enough cash.

My go-to ned rig setup is a 6'9" Fenwick HMG ML/F. This is one of my most often used setup so I might upgrade it to something higher end and likely XF.

I use a ML 7ft Fenwick Eagle with 10# Nanofil to a 6# Floro leader. For an inexpensive rod it is sensitive and I have caught many a bass on this ned rig.

I had the same rod and sold it. Loved the rod but really wanted a faster action. Went with a BPS Carbonlite 2.0 6'8"M-Xf. Lure rating of 1/8-1/2oz, so it similar power to the Fenwick hmg ML-F, but with a faster action. Love the rod and have it paired with a Stradic FL. Great versatile set up. A st croix or gloomis ML-XF would be good as well.

I can get a good deal on an used IMX sjr 721 g Loomis 6’ light action 1/16-5/16 fast action.   Was considering it for a ned rig rod but the trend seems to be closer to 7’ these days. Anyone use a 6’ ned rod still ? I’m in Smaller northern Ontario inland lakes, not huge Great Lakes smallies or anything like that.

Found this You Tube video by Gary Senft at Bartlett lake AZ from a couple of years ago, thought it might be of interest.

This. The Addermine is something special, I use it basically as an all around finesse stick if I don’t feel like bringing another spinning setup with me. Another option would be the Whipsnake in the Orochi series, not quite as sensitive as the Addermine but still a good powerful finesse stick.
