Happy to see an article in the local paper today about our town's public high school's new fishing club. They got support from the local "mom & pop" (non chain) retailer, plus a local full time fishing guide, plus a world wide rod/reel maker.

KITTERY, Maine – Established this past school year, Traip Academy’s first fishing team saw its inaugural activities interrupted by COVID-19, but members have laid the groundwork for a successful future.

The high school’s newest team is only fitting for one of Maine’s oldest fishing villages.

Sponsored by the Kittery Trading Post, the Traip Academy Anglers were born out of “students already fishing on their own,” said Jen Thayer, the Kittery School District’s sustainability coordinator. Through the team’s relationship with KTP, the fishermen have received free workshops, team jerseys, rods, reels and more.

This is great.

I have been asked to look into starting a team at my high school as Fall sports are uncertain and Squam is minutes down the road

I hope they start something like that in my grandsons school districts. Even if in a few years from now. I’ll be retired and can maybe help out in some capacity.

Sounds great.

I wish that my high school started a bass club, but there isn't enough people that I know of that like bass fishing to make it happen. If only it existed!

Nice, if only mine started one. I don't know who would start one though, because IDK if anyone else like bass fishing at my school. It seems that they are more into sports like basketball or football.

Is there a school bulletin board where you can put up flyers?

Get a teacher - any at this point - to reserve a classroom for a meeting after normal hours. Put up a flyer for a meeting to see what the interest is. If no one shows up, you have your answer - if a number show up, then you can start planning to create one...more minds, more ideas.

It CAN work - it's how me and a couple friends started a Skeet Club at my high school. Three of us and one teacher for the initial meeting - club started with 23 members of a school of 1000.

Some old ideas still work - we started our club back in 1975...ya, I'm a old-fart.

Nice. Let's hope that I can make one.

I'm at a school of 4000 and we made announcements about our club's first meeting over the PA. 5 of us compete in tournaments. One of my friends dad has a ranger and the other's grandpa has a tracker. We compete in an Illinois High School circuit and have a sectional and state tournament. I just happened to find kids who fished by hearing them talk about it. I'm in a big sports school in the Chicago burbs so I bet you will be able to find people. Also is there a thread for high school reports??

Ok. I will check if people like fishing around me, possibly by asking or just by listening in. Some people in my cross-country team like fishing, but they mostly trout fish in the local trout stream, like I do once in a while. And sorry, but IDK if there is any high-school reports that I know of.
