Had a neighborhood kid asking me for several days to take him fishing, after 3 years a damned up creek at the end of our road has turned into a pretty decent pond. I finally had a chance to take him yesterday but we couldn't get away until noon when it was over 90 degrees. I warned him "we probably won't catch anything it is too hot out right now." Whenever I take this kid I put him on my honey holes, teach him how to work the bait but being 90 out i wasn't expecting much. Within the first 10 minutes I had a 2lber on the bank. Neighborhood kid got skunked but he spent the rest of Sunday checking with me on what stuff to buy, knots to tie, what crankbaits to use. My new fishing buddy is hooked and I am positive the 2lber was the good karma from taking a kid fishing

Good on you for taking a young enthusiast fishing.  The air may be hot but the fish don't care.  The water temp is what's important, and they still have to eat when it's hot.  Actually, they have to either eat more or move less or both as their metabolism is higher in the peak of summer.

Getting him interested in fishing will hopefully help keep him out of trouble as he grows older.

^^^^ This. And may I add, keep it FUN for him. Kids lose interest once it becomes a chore, or boring.

You didn't create a monster. You actually prevented a potential monster in the making. Idle minds are the devils workshop.  As the father of 5 boys and 3 girls I know it doesn't take very much idle time for things to get out of focus. Fishing will keep this young man laser focussed and also sharpen his skills for a lifetime of enjoyment. Well done, Scrooge. Well done.

Whoa Big Rick, eight kids......not much idle time for sure!  I agree with your statement.  I observed the busy Scouts, and the kids that turned out as idle monsters in our neighborhood.  With nothing to focus on the rules didn't apply.
