Reanimator was another one from the 80's

Also solid. Another one from the 80s that's lots of fun is Return of the living dead.

Only one I haven't seen in the list is trick or treat. Cabin in the woods and hereditary are both favorites...although id say cabin isn't a horror movie it's more of a comedy aimed at horror movie buffs. For suspense I really liked Creep and Unsane. As far as horror that's not super well known I had a lot of fun with Funhouse. It's not a great film by any means but it's just a mega 80s good time..directed by Tobe Hooper the guy that brought us the original Texas Chainsaw massacre. Also I liked the first VHS...I'm not usually a fan of found footage but it was fresh and unique enough to be interesting. For a wierd/tough watch I thought Poughkeepsie Tapes was brutal...but we'll done.

I've seen all but Poughkeepsie Tapes. I'll have to check it out.

Im more into westerns but like thrillers occasionally. I dont watch gory ones anymore. Ive seen some of the 70s-80s horror movies. After seeing The first friday the 13th , I came home , loaded my gun, checked under the bed and closets before going to sleep. The first halloween was really scary imo, esp. when M. Myers gets shot and falls out the window. They look down and he’s..... gone...

Seen “ the Fog” too, “poltergeist,” the “ amityville horror.”

Whats the one where one man is killed by several others and comes back to kill them?  One of them dies when he gets trapped in a grain silo and gets suffocated by the grain. Maybe the ghost is a scarecrow? Thought that one was pretty good.

One of my all times, and not mentioned...

The Thing - John Carpenter Version, of course. Effects still work for me to this day. Super suspenseful, some grotesqueness but in a good way! Awesome in many ways.

Kinda drawing a blank. Evil Dead 1 (original) and 2, maybe 3 if you want camp/comedy. Classics.

It's not strictly horror as much as a simply dark story. But I'm digging deep for you.

I'm also into gangster and gritty crime/police dramas. I just watched Arkansas on Prime. I recommend it.

More recently the movie I thought was scariest the past several years was Hereditary. Also very uncomfortable and tense..has a certain atmosphere. Plus there are a few scenes in it that you can't unsee...they just stick with you.

I agree. Some of those scenes just stick with you, the ending as well.

A great horror film is the original REC (short for record) 2007 Spanish version. Very claustrophobic tense atmosphere in this film. Interesting twist at the end.

The premise: A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying.

The best horror movie ever made. It still has an impact on people around the world.

Eight Legged Freaks is more of a horror comedy but it was entertaining.

Dog Soldiers was probably the best werewolf movie I’ve seen.

Did you watch the Slasher Netflix show?

Down a similar vein, did you see the Cloverfield movies? The first one specifically comes to mind when REC is mentioned...

How about going back into the 50's with:

The House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price

Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein with Bella Lugosi

The Monster from the Black Lagoon with my ex-wife

Dracula with Bella again

I remember they scared me, other than for the Abbot and Costello movie which was funny.

The original Phantom of the Opera back when there were no talkies, like in the 30's.

And you can watch Young Frankenstein. Great gags if you pay attention.

Here is one of the many links that list horror movies. These are from 2000 to date. Sorry to say it does not include my last tournament on the Potomac River which was a horror movie in itself:

Great novel.

*SPOILER ALERT*

The marine biologist was having an affair with the police chief's wife.

Haven't seen Hereditary but it sounds like I should.

Yes, you should. If you do, you can skip Midsommar. They're the same movie with different scenery.

I don't think Midsommar and Hereditary are the same. Are there similarities sure..same director who has a particular style. But Hereditary has a more ominous tone and it reminds me of movies like The Babadook. Midsommar is also tense and wrought with grief but also has more playful elements like drugs and dancing..a huge homage to the original Wicker Man.

Spoilers below! So stop reading here unless you've see these two films.

They're both about damaged goods women who turn out to be the unsuspecting goddess of an unknown death cult at the expense of every male around them. That's pretty similar considering they're consecutive films by the same writer/director. You'd think he could think up some different material. Midsommar would be a good film on its own. But it's a pretty lazy follow-up for the same writer/director. And if you saw Hereditary first you have already experienced the same kind of shocks Midsommar delivers. Maybe I saw them too closely together.
