Super User DitchPanda Posted August 8, 2020 Super User Posted August 8, 2020 Been a fan of horror movies my entire life. I've seen thousands in my life so I'm always on the lookout for unknown and underseen movies. Anybody have any suggestions for good horror movies that aren't well known and flew under the radar or maybe are just forgotten? Quote
Super User ATA Posted August 8, 2020 Super User Posted August 8, 2020 I never Benn fan of horror movies, because nothing scary there and boring, do you really know any scary movie that actually is scary? except The Exorcist 1973 I watched that movie from my bedroom door crack when I was 8 without my parents know I am watching it secretly, and it scare the hell of me and I still scare of that movie and never watch it again, but anything else did make me feel the same. Super User DitchPanda Posted August 8, 2020 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2020 The original Texas Chainsaw massacre is scary in my opinion. It has a real feel to it almost like a home video or documentary so that adds a lot to its effectiveness. Plus it's just gritty and tense through most of the play time. More recently the movie I thought was scariest the past several years was Hereditary. Also very uncomfortable and tense..has a certain atmosphere. Plus there are a few scenes in it that you can't unsee...they just stick with you. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 8, 2020 Super User Posted August 8, 2020 The Exorcist was terrifying and Rosemary's Baby was a close second. 1 Quote

The scary thing about this is that it actually happened too. Perhaps some of the movie is fabricated for drama and hollywood but the basis of the movie is real. That's almost beyond comprehension. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 8, 2020 Super User Posted August 8, 2020 Henry. Portrait of a Serial Killer. 3 hours ago, gimruis said: The scary thing about this is that it actually happened too. Plenty of other movies based off his life as well. 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted August 9, 2020 Super User Posted August 9, 2020 Are you more into the gore factor or suspense? There are plenty of good "thrillers" that are not necessarily horror movies Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted August 9, 2020 Author Super User Posted August 9, 2020 A little gore is ok with but it goes into gross not scary pretty fast. I like to be scared not grossed out so I'm more into suspense and a good story that builds it 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 9, 2020 Super User Posted August 9, 2020 Have you seen Splinter? Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted August 9, 2020 Author Super User Posted August 9, 2020 Yep I've seen it. I've seen to many...that's why it's a struggle for me. Quote
The Bassman Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 The Shining creeped me out the first time I saw it. On the flip side, nothing cracks me up like a good B horror movie from the '50's. Quote

Here are a few sleepers I enjoyed that you've probably already seen: Cabin In The Woods Dead Silent Trick Or Treat (1986) Starry Eyes - Particularly disturbing Something Wicked This Way Comes The Blackcoat's Daughter Suspiria redux - The original was just too Euro-hispter for me. Heredity Midsommar - If you've seen heredity, you've really seen Midsommar as well. As others occur to me, I'll post them. I like horror and realize it's a genre that dips into B film territory. So I make exceptions for B actors if the plot is good and the ending is not cheesy. Castle Rock series on Hulu is good. Probably the best arrangement of King's material I've seen. Bates Motel is a good series as well. If you've seen these you are truly into the deep cuts and I probably can't help you. In that case, give me some recommendations. I like suspense a little more than gore. But some gore is a necessity for some films. Quote

Cabin in the woods and hereditary are both favorites...although id say cabin isn't a horror movie it's more of a comedy aimed at horror movie buffs. For suspense I really liked Creep and Unsane. As far as horror that's not super well known I had a lot of fun with Funhouse. It's not a great film by any means but it's just a mega 80s good time..directed by Tobe Hooper the guy that brought us the original Texas Chainsaw massacre. Also I liked the first VHS...I'm not usually a fan of found footage but it was fresh and unique enough to be interesting. For a wierd/tough watch I thought Poughkeepsie Tapes was brutal...but we'll done. 1 Quote
