Hello,

Was picking up some Tungsten on omfishingsinkers and saw these free swinging heads. Picked them up to hit the free shipping but unsure on where and how to use them.

For the football head, guessing using this with some basic creatures and dragging will work well but have no idea on the free swinging swimbait. Anyone have any tips on where to use these?

Thanks!

I've never used the fish head style.  I like the football head style.  I fish them like a crank bait that stays stuck to the bottom all the time.  Throw it out - hit the bottom - keep it moving on the way back.  My best results have been bring it back kinda slow ( not dead slow), using the reel and not the rod.  Using the rod would give it a stop & go action, using the reel keeps the speed steady.  Slowish & steady is what has worked the best for me.   I think any crawdad type bait will work with this head.   My best results have been with the Zoom Z-craw.

I'll start by saying I occasionally try stupid things. With that being said: I used the swimbait head to swim a 13 Fishing Joystick worm. Its a straight worm, with rabbit ears. With a steady retrieve, those ears flap like crazy, but the worm itself is more subtle. Just kind of rocks back and forth. Had one hell of an afternoon swimming that thing around grass.

Curious, Why did you add an O-Ring? The action seem to be better or something?

The RPE Tackle Tungsten Swinging Football Jig (Pictured Top & Bottom Bait) is Tungsten, come without a hook.

It possesses a unique and very secure hook hanging system that allows for the hook to be changed.

This is accomplished by sliding the internal rigging clip out of the weighted head.

Once re-rigged and ready to fish, the head 'moves' a bit on the clip.

I noticed it was coming forward & tight on the line tie in front, possible wearing the line/knot.

The addition of the oval split ring eliminates that.

What weights do ya'll use are various depths?

First one I got was just 7/16th and was shocked how it didn't stay down very well so I have since purchased 1/2 and 3/4oz heads.

Seriously AJ is there a topic you don't have a large very informed write up about? :) . Cant wit to go through and read this.(Edit: didn't realize this was the Smallie write up you sent me before my trip to Lake Winnie few weeks ago. This post is incredible and so in depth)

Thanks so much! As someone who only seriously got into Bass fishing 2-3 years ago (and took off this past year), can't say how valuable this Forum has been. Incredible Free Learning tool

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.  I learn something new here just about every day.  Tremendous.   All I can say is the winter's are long here.

I haven't used a swing head football jig hardly at all, but I understand that they are popular for ledge fishing.  They were talking about swimming them on the bottom like a crankbait, using a creature bait. Can't personally vouch for that but I have heard it from other people also.

I fish these from time to time and do well. I followed Tommy Biffle's instructions. I have biffle heads, swinging rugbys, bass patrols and some small tackle company from ebay variety. Some heads are totally oval and traditional and some have flat spots on the bottom. W 2 F has a bunch of vids on these on their youtube with creature baits and swimbaits.
