Today is Wednesday. If you were planning on fishing this Saturday, would you tie on the lures or hooks you planned to fish with that morning? Friday evening? Today?

I just tied on a WP 75 on one baitcasting rig and a 4/0 EWG on another for a 9” Mann’s Jelly Worm TR, and a 1/0 octopus hook for a 5” Senko WR on my spinning gear. Do you find that an acceptable amount of time ahead of a trip to tie on lures, or is as “fresh” as possible the best bet for knot strength?

I used to have some rigs tied on a long time. But I’m catching bigger fish than I used to, and having lost a few decent bass (not necessarily to having the lures tied on too long; more likely that I neglected to retie after a snag), I figure whatever decreases the percentage of knot failures is the way to go.

I will usually tie up some baits/techniques the night before that are specific to how I'm planning to fish.  I do have some rods that I may have tied up previously and didn't use which the bait will stay tied on.  And other rods (like my Frog rod) probably will stayed on until I change out the frog which is pretty rare.

Single hook baits I think I'll use are tied on the night before.  Treble baits when I get to the water.

I usually wait closer to the time I plan on going to get a more accurate weather forecast.   I would be tied up by Friday night for sure.  I have mostly technique specific rods that stay that way in the boat.  I will still re-tie if they have been used enough and could be weak. I also replace leaders that have gotten short.

The day or night before..for most baits. Things may change during the fishing day.

It's part of my night-before setup:

Plug battery charger in

KVD all the non-braid reels

Tie on my initial lure selections

I don’t like the idea of lures or weights  banging on my rods during transport so I will tie on the lake. The thought of a loose t-rig weight sliding up the line banging near the rod tip makes me cringe and shudder. If you do this and your rod tip breaks, you no longer have need to wonder why.

I hardly ever bring more than 4 rods so no time is wasted.

I tie on when I start fishing.  I can tie a leader on in under two minutes and a terminal connection in under a minute easily.

If I have confidence in a knot I tied late the day before, I might - maybe - fish it again at the start of  the next day if I’m in a real rush.  But normally I’ll cut and re tie.

I retie leaders & baits the day/night before each trip.

When fishing several days in a row, it happens organically as part of my fishing.

The more I catch, the more I re-tie.

And vice versa, unfortunately.

I learned the hard way as used, bead up knots & leaders cost me fish.

If I have time, I like to rig up my rods the day before I go fishing at least when I take the kayaks out. So if I'm going out on Saturday, I like to rig up the night before and throw the rigged rods in rod socks and into the kayak so I can get on the water quicker on Saturday. This way all I have to is throw on soft plastics/trailers when I get there and the rods are good to go on Saturday.

Likewise, when I go for a lengthy camping trip, on the first day when I get there I usually rig up all the rods I plan on using that trip the first day. This way I only have to retie when I land a big one.

I tie my stuff on the night before and usually bring a few other options a long in case I wanna change up. I usually look at the weather forecast and maybe the local water temps and let that dictate what I tie on.

Tie lures day before fishing . Change too short leaders . Set drag on every rod ....then change my mind , change rods to different rods , change leaders and lures again .Wife undoubtedly will ask why I take forever getting ready to go fishing ...lol

I have 3 setups that stay tied on 24/7/265; a Texas Rig, a Jig-n-Craw, & a frog.

Due to the heavy cover I fish it's a constant cycle of checking knots, checking lines for nicks/abrasion, & respooling. If there's any doubt in my mind it gets retied or respooled.

^^^^ Me too. But I do retie my big swimbait knots every 2 hours of casting and after every fish.

If everything is in good shape, I will tie on the night before if possible. Right now, I have a rod with fairly new 8 lb fluorocarbon line that needs to be let out behind the boat to relieve the twist I put in it evening before last, so that one won't get retied before I go out.

Most of the time, I tie a lure on the day before. But, sometimes I’ll tie a lure on a couple days in advance.

Fresh knots to the business end the night before, and I check my line when it's necessary.  If I've pulled a big one in or gotten one from heavy cover, I generally find a weak point and get the weakness out.

I used to tie FG knots the night before, but I've become very good at tying that connection and don't end up replacing those until I've lost around 50% of the leader.

I tie on once I get to the water for the most part. I don’t like having strung up rods get tangled up together in my rod box.

Pretty much the same for me. I retie if I see a flaw in the last few inches of line or if I change baits. I haven't had a knot failure in years unless I intended it like when stuck on something.

This is me, except for the heavy cover part.

I am a line watching hawk.

I feel this is always the weakest point so it gets the most attention.
