a couple of weeks ago i noticed the tip of my mach 2 rod is missing the insert.  when i called the local tackle shop to ask about repair, they said they could do it.  however, when i inquired about it, they said they would clip off the old tip and glue a new one on the  end. i don't want that, so i ordered a custom speed stick to replace it.  while i was on the site, i also ordered a couple of lures and a line stripper.

my order arrived today, and there were 2 rod  tubes taped together.  i figured they did that for strength. i opened the first tube, and there was the rod i ordered, in perfect condition. schweeeeeet!!!  i was about to put the tubes out with the trash, and i decided to look inside the other tube, in case they sent me a 2nd one. i dont need 2 of them, and i only want to pay for one if i only need one, right? i opened the other tube and inside was a duckett pro series timmy horton. it's a $180 rod! i checked my invoices and they only billed me for the lew's. i called TW and told them what happened, and i am sending it back to them. they had no idea.  i was tempted to say nothing but i just can't bring myself to do it.  maybe the god's of fishing will reward me with a monster bass this year? access to a new private hole?  i'm hoping. hahahaha

has anything like this ever happened to you?  it's the first time for me

Not to me but my son ordered a budget Abu Garcia baitcasting/rod combo from Amazon and received two of them in separate packages on back to back days.  He emailed them, they said keep it. I don't know if the order was fulfilled by Amazon or Amazon was the storefront for another company but either way he got two for one .

The most important part of having a moral compass . . . .  is using it.

An Opportunity to Reaffirm ones own character can be it's own reward.

Like my grandfather always said

"What goes around, comes around".

Well done doing the honest thing!  Not a lot of that left in this world anymore!  I would have sent it back no matter what just cause it said Duckett on it!  haha

I have not had anything like that happen..well not to that extreme..I've been sent an extra lure and just been told to keep it. I think you just bought yourself some good fish karma.

To answer your question - I have had Amazon send me two rods instead of one at least once (twice I think).

I have always tried to return them.  They ultimately told me to keep them.

To answer the more important question - IMHO the Gods of something, if not big bass, will look favorably on your choice.

Unfortunately, I’ve been honest my whole life. This is how it’s gonna go. You’ll not be smiled on by the gods. You’ll not win the lottery. You’ll not catch the state record( cause of this). You’ll have no reward of any kind. What you will be, is the guy at the party who listens to how the other guy got to keep his free rod. Yup just like that.

it was still the right thing to do though.

The “reward” is knowing that deep inside, you are a good and honest person.

The most disturbing part of your story is the tackle shop clipping off tip tops! ?

My thought exactly.  A little heat and the tip should slide right off.

I know, as basically what you said is correct. You won’t win Powerball, find treasure, win big at poker or anything like that. But you’ll sleep well!

A few years back I ordered an upper from Noveske. Inside the box was a couple of Troy rear sights. I shot them an email & they sent me a return label. A couple of weeks later I received a swag pack with a hat, couple of shirts & a bunch of stickers. There was a thank you note written on the N/C invoice. Pretty cool.

That is cool. That’s a proper thank you.

there's only 1 place that does it around here anymore.   when i called them, i told them i don't know anything about the process, and wanted to know if i drop off my rod, about how long they might have it.  they got annoyed with me and gave me a short answer. that helped me decide not to take my rod there. well, that and not wanting them to shorten my  rod.  i buy most of my stuff online or at walmart, because the few tackle shops left  here now are kinda rude, even when you're the only guy in the store.

Good call. I tend to think your honesty will be repaid in some way, in the future.

The other reward is that we know too that @cheezyridr is a good and honest person.

If it were me, I'd send it back as soon as they sent a prepaid shipping label, though I've got stuff I don't want sitting here at the house waiting now over 4 months for said label ?
