Numbers have been good , 15 inch keepers have been good , lunkers none .

Slacker. The way your thumb looks, if you caught a lunker, you wouldn’t have a thumb!

Went out for about 5 hours last night 12am-5am and managed 2 small ones and lost a huge one.

2020 started slow for me.  Off shore fishing was so so.  Had to cancel the last couple trips in April May, due to covid.  My season in AK was cancelled. This is the first summer since 1988 I haven't been guiding salmon anglers in AK.   I miss Alaska, but it has been fun doing something different.  Had a couple good offshore trips, lots of tuna, Wahoo, and a few Marlin.  I bought a Kayak, and found a small lake that has trophy bass.  First few trips to the lake were frustrating.  I could catch baby bass anywhere on anything, but no bass over a pound.  My luck changed in June.  I fished the lake four days since the middle of June, and have landed three bass over 10 pounds, one 7.9 pounds, and a few 3-5 pounds.  It is a 3.5 hour drive one way but well worth the effort.  Fished Chapala one day, landed many bass with biggest 6.7 pounds.  Until this summer my PB was 5.5 pounds landed in 1977.  Needless to say, I'm not missing Alaska right now.

Things haven't been getting any better as summer grinds on... Last 27 hours of Tournament fishing I have managed a whole 6 fish.  Last 24 hours of fun fishing, only 7 fish.  I have never had this much trouble getting a bite.  I am banging my head against a wall.

Last 2 man tournament had 25 boats and in 8 hours only had 2 boats get a limit.  The bite right now is the toughest I have ever been through.

I’ll make this short and sweet. Haven’t really fished in almost 30 years until this May. Moved from MD to TX last August. Since May:

Caught my PB (22” between 6 and 7 lbs); likely double over my best ever

Catch at least one bass over 2 lbs on every trip but one

Caught my first bass on a spinnerbait two weeks ago

Caught my first topwater bass (4 lbs.) ever on a Whopper Plopper 75 last Sunday

Got two new baitcasting and one spinning rig since June (and when my new rod shows up I’ll have a 2nd new spinning rig)

Bought a Sea Eagle Packfish 7 to get me out on the water (first boat in 40 years)

Having the best year of fishing in my life!

119 bass have been logged for me since the start of the year, I second that! 2020 has been great for me!!

Good numbers man. I have no idea how many I’ve caught. I don’t do as much logging as I done when I was younger guy. But quality fish I’ve gotten some nice one this season. Oldest grandson has a nice PB from this season. Youngest has some nice chunks to his name.

I’ve made a plan to switch tactics and  river fish this fall. Go back to my home waters. I may fall flat on my face. Mother Nature has been hard on my home waters and my bass fishing roots. She has played major effects on its ecosystem. Don’t get me wrong I’m enjoying the green fish of the lake for the past few seasons. But the Brown bass are in my blood. Big rains will mess up my plans. I’ll feel the waters out after the holiday. Was my hope to finish the season up on it.

Here in Michigan, I was tearing it up in March and April when it was still cold but then fishing got tough once the days got nice. All the bag weights are much lower this year than last in my local tournament club. Seems like it's picking up a bit lately but this summer was brutal. I think a lot of it had to do with the increased pressure from the legion of people who were killing time until they could go back to work during the COVID-19 lockdown. I stopped going to one of my little honey hole lakes because it was constantly ringed with shore anglers.

Wow didn't know Oprah was a bass angler..........things have been hard for the last month round here. All summer the fishing pressure has been high with so many people off work. Looking at the entire year it started strong and then went down the drain in August for numbers and large fish. Hoping September is like always with fish feeding hard for one our tough winter's.   Dave

Definitely nothing to brag about here fishing wise. Very tough summer. Fishing on one of the few open to the public lakes in south central Texas has been really tough. COVID has closed a number of other lakes and parks, so more people than ever are coming here to boat, swim, ski, and fish. Too crowded to be able to do much. When getting off the main lake into one of the few slews, it is like taking side streets when a main highway is backed up due to a wreck. Mid September into October is going to be nice when everyone goes back to work, back to school, and back home so fishing will actually be possible and hopefully productive.

Mine has dropped of significantly over the last two weeks. Not skunked but fish are not worth talking about. I have to change tactics I believe. I suspect nice fish have regressed to deeper water. This weekend I’ll use my finder over deeper water and if I come up with anything I’ll mark them, maybe switch to some Carolina Rigging. Deep water fishing is a real weak spot for me. My comfort zone is from 0’ to about 20’. 20’ - 60’ sort of lost. We are supposed to get slammed with some rains on Saturday. Might not be a bad thing. Higher water may put some bass up on the bank. Last hurricane it did that. May not be fishable here till Sunday. All part of fishing. No Complaints, been there many times. Just a cycle they go through I guess.

Spring was a bust. I expected it to be bad in March, but when the bass didn’t cooperate in April and May I almost gave up. Luckily things turned around in June, and hopefully I’ll find the hawgs in the fall.

Ive had a poor big fish year -  4.10 being my biggest. If I remember correctly, I caught 4 other fish that were around 4, incuding 3 in 30 minutes. 2 were 20 inch and 1 was 21 1/2.   ( scale was broke)

Ive had a good numbers year. Yesterday was my worst trip, only caught 6-7. No size again.

Summertime blues!
