Sphynx Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Ever gone out to fish the morning topwater bite and get to your spot, see fish feeding on the surface, think to yourself "It's going to be a great day..." then proceed to get skunked? Yeah, me too, infuriating, they win today, was an awesome sunrise though, and it was well worth the trip, can't wait to go again. 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted August 2, 2020 Super User Posted August 2, 2020 I think there’s a Jimmy Buffett song something like - “Trying to Reason... With Topwater Season” Many highs and lows, but with risk comes reward, just not always when you think - - Quote
Sphynx Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 Yah, can't count on anything in this hobby, there's days you do everything wrong and they bite anyway, and other days you do everything you know your supposed to be doing and they just don't want to play, guess the fish gotta win every now and then. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2020 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2020 I had white bass blowing up all over around my boat almost everywhere I went Friday morning. Managed to catch a whopping 2 of them and neither one was bigger than 8". Not sure what they wanted, but it wasn't anything I was offering them. Quote

Yeah, they were doing me filthy this morning, blowing up where I had been last cast in the middle of the next cast and all of it, if bass had middle fingers the whole pond was giving me both of them straight up with not a care in the world how I felt about it...one of these days I WILL get a whopper plopper fish, just not today lol. 24 minutes ago, DitchPanda said: Nope never happened to me...not sure what your problem is P.S. Herbert Lorenzo Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Sometimes those fish that are busting the water are not the fish species we want (believe) them to be . 1 Quote
Sphynx Posted August 3, 2020 Author Posted August 3, 2020 Very, very possible it was salmon or steelhead, bit loud for that, in my experience they usually slurp and don't bust the way a bass will, but then I'm sure enough people have experience to the contrary that I wouldn't call it a hard fast rule Quote

I grew up in Franklin Parish and had no idea there were salmon or steelhead within 1,000 miles of La..... I'm assuming you were fishing up north somewhere... Quote
