pauldconyers Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Needed to replace the FC on my deep crank set up so as a change I threw some 12LB Big Game on to give it a try. Would KVD line conditioner help at all with mono or roll with it as is? 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 2, 2020 Super User Posted August 2, 2020 I can't confirm that it helps - but I use it on my mono as well as my YZH...good soak before spooling up, couple spritzes night before a trip. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 2, 2020 Super User Posted August 2, 2020 With Big Game, yes. I use to use it and with the line conditioner, Big Game was much more manageable. Quote
Maggiesmaster Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 I let the line out while the boat’s moving slowly. This ‘softens’ the line & removes kinks, etc. Then I use KDV conditioner. 1 Quote
mrpao Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 From my experience the KVD line conditioner does help. It will make mono a little more manageable. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 2, 2020 Super User Posted August 2, 2020 Been using kvd for many years on all my mono..especially on the larger diameter line, although I used on 7 lb on up. From all the use, I think it helps with memory, although today's mono lines are pretty manageable..Where it really helps is on a spinning reel. Quote
Todd2 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 I've never understood it's purpose. Most mono's I've ever used doesn't need it. Once the line gets wet after a couple of casts it's good to go. Fluoro is supposedly waterproof so how does it soak in to help there? Always seemed like a product searching for a problem to me. I did buy one bottle years ago. 2 Quote

Other line treatments you find on the market are primarily silicone oil and solvents. Silicone oil only temporarily coats the line and solvents can damage line. Silicone oil rapidly comes off the line (on your hands and in the water), requiring re-treatment of the line after just a few casts. The special polymers in Line & Lure are hydrophobic (water repelling) and very slippery. It doesn't allow water to draw back on to the reel spool, which eliminates the line drag that a "wet" spool has. It also protects the line from wearing out as quickly as un-treated line because it resists the abrasion that wears line out. It contains no oils or solvents as in Reel Magic that can build up and collect dirt like silicone/oil treatments will. Quote

But I'm just giving my opinion. Trust me, the bait monkey convinces me that I need a bunch of stuff that I don't..but this ain't one of them. 2 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 The information I provided came from the company's web site four years ago Quote
mrpao Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 When I use to only use mono, I never gave it much thought to use the KVD line conditioner. Once I started using fluro, its pretty much a necessity. Then I found it works well on mono too. Now I spray it on pretty much all my lines. It does make mono softer and more easy to manage. Even light lines like 4 and 6 lbs are less prone to line twist now. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 2, 2020 Super User Posted August 2, 2020 I use it on my spinning reels. A good spray midweek and let it soak in, then a quick spray the night before the trip. It does help. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted August 3, 2020 Super User Posted August 3, 2020 Have you ever seen the line on bottom of you reel? You will see a bunch of small coil that hard to get it strengthen out. KVD conditioner would help relax those coils memory. You won’t see much effect on mono since it soft but stiffer line like hybrid or CXX, the difference is huge. Now, what loose coil can help on your reel? Improve casting distance and sensitivity again you will see more benefit when using lighter weight lure. I dont use KVD to all my reels only the one I plan to use in near future, mostly next day or two. I would strip about 20 yds of line out, apply a few spray, reel the line back in and spray again. This to make sure I got the solution to bottom part as well. Quote
Luke Barnes Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Totally worth it. Have used it on mono, copoly, and fluoro. It was a noticeable difference. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted August 3, 2020 Super User Posted August 3, 2020 I fish mono 99% of the time, and have never seen the need for line conditioner. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 3, 2020 Super User Posted August 3, 2020 I have used it on Berkley Big Game. I notice a difference in manageability using this product, Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Thanks for the information, guys! Though I didn't start the thread, it's definitely helpful for tons of folks around here. Now if I could just have the faith in my electronics to hit the deep structure and cover. Quote

KVD conditioner is one of those things you dont know you need until you actually use it. IMO makes a difference on all line except braid 1 Quote
TBAG Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Yeah, it helps IMO. I use it on all my line except of course braid. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted August 3, 2020 Super User Posted August 3, 2020 I bought a bottle probably 5 years ago and it's still half full. I've tried it on mono and fluoro. It did make a small difference, but I've never really seen the need for it. Quote
