Ya I had a handful of people send me this, telling me to watch out. I've never really heard of muskies attacking people here in the GTA but obviously it happens!

Boy that's nasty.

If you're a man you definitely don't want to go skinny dipping there.

The caption says that she is holding a walleye in a photo from her facebook page to show they are avid fishers.

There has been a few documented attacks of muskies on people before. There is an episode of River Monsters where Jeremy Wade is at Eagle Lake, Ontario because an attack triggered an investigation.  It’s a good episode. He spends over a week trying to catch one and only when he gives up to target trout does he hook into one on very light tackle. Anyone that muskie fishes regularly can relate to this. It consumes him, deprives him of sleep, and makes his body ache.

I usually hear about one attack a year. There was one last year i saw definitely from an otter, even though it was claimed to be a musky. It was clearly a bite from two big fangs, not a ton of smaller sharp teeth, and they never actually saw the fish. Big pike occasional bite trolling motors or outboards.

If anybody is worried about musky attacks in their lake, just let me come fish it and I'll prove there's none in there!

The way these fish are equipped, it's a good thing attacks are minimal.

About 20 years ago my cousin ( about 10 or 12 at the time), was fishing off their cottage dock catching sunfish. She bent down to wash the fish slime off her hands and a pike about 30” darted out from under the dock and grabbed her hand. It let go pretty fast, but she still needed about 30 stitches to close up all the cuts in her hand.

I don't worry about getting bit, but crankbaits and pike are always an adventure.  Not only are they hard on tackle, but the are like holding a bomb waiting for it to go off.  If you use a net, you can spend 10 minutes untangling that mess.  On a muskie note, I use to spend hours and hours fishing for them with very limited success.  I catch just as many now that I only bass fish. Go figure.

Something about this story is very fishy and I do not mean the muskie. These fish have very sharp teeth that are more likely to cut into meat like a knife, the wound she has appears to be more like the wounds you would expect from a mammal like an otter.

We have 1 or 2 people s year get bit by muskies here in northern ny. A lot of times its people lounging in a boat or a dock with their feet or hands dangling in the water. A 12 year old kid got bitten badly a couple years ago while swimming.
