PABassFish007 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Good Evening - Just got back from the lake and got some dinks, but skunked otherwise. I am up in the NE, there has been minimal rain (creating NO current or draw from the reservoirs), half the month of July lived in the 90's, when the average is 5 days for July. There are plenty more people fishing due to the pandemic. The lakes are clear as day. I am looking for some help or suggestions on what I should try to throw under these conditions to start putting fish in the boat. I try to get out every weekend, and this year has been the toughest with most weekends having 1 or 2 legal bass in 5-8 hours. Any and all help is appreciated! Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 2, 2020 Global Moderator Posted August 2, 2020 Weightless finesse worm with some sparkles in it. Throw it out there, don’t move it AT ALL and watch your line Quote
Way north bass guy Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Largemouth or smallmouth? What are the lakes like, lots of weeds/shallow or deep/rocky. This makes a big difference in what to throw and how to throw it. I will say that around here, pretty much all our lakes are super clear, and yesterday I was seeing fish hit in 25’ of water, and we got a ton of em, so it is definitely doable. Quote
Sphynx Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 What to throw is only a part of the equation, WHERE to throw is the biggest part, I have caught fish using multiple techniques at the same spot, at the same time, but if your tossing lures where there are no fish, it doesn't really matter what you throw, what time of day are you fishing? What is the wind doing, water temp? Depth? Vegetation, rock bottom or sand or mud? Too many variables to give a specific answer other than toss a wacky rigged senko around til you get bit. As a general rule, come up with a system to approach a body of water, adjust it for conditions and start putting pieces of the puzzle together, a lot of times you will go through a number of techniques and spots before you solve it, personally I like to fish the topwater action up shallow first in the morning, usually turns up some fish, whenever that stops getting them (or if they didn'tbite at all on it like this morning), I switch to a search style bait and will start covering water trying to find a bite again, might have to go over an area several times to find them, but I like to start high in the column and fast, then gradually go lower and slower until they start biting, hopefully avoiding finesse presentations unless I have no other choice. PABassFish007 Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 Mostly largemouth. There used to be good weeds 2 years ago, then it flooded and the weeds haven't came back like before, what little weeds there are look brown. Visibility has to be close to 10'. I've been going early morning to mid day. As of late there has been no wind and the water looks like a sheet of glass. What type of search bait do you use? Quote
Super User Bird Posted August 2, 2020 Super User Posted August 2, 2020 Similar scenario here and been doing respectable with early morning top water , buzzbaits and whopper 90. And mid day searching with drop shot, Robo worms.......most fish have been coming in the 20ft range. Weekends are a wash due to crowds. Quote
PABassFish007 Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 I will say I've been getting hits left and right with a 4" drop shot on a 1/0 hook, but I'm having to guess the majority of these are panfish. The majority of the ones that have weight come off halfway to the boat.. Quote
Jaderose Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Just the thing for you....When conditions are like that, I throw these......made by a small producer in Maine (single guy) called Rego's Custom Tackle. I don't work for him or make/get anything from recommending other than I want to see him stay in business so I can keep buying his baits. He's on Facebook.... Quote
