If you watched their older videos they always would say that the best way to support them is to buy stuff through the links in their videos because they have a deal with tackle warehouse. You can also see in their waaaay old videos that they have been working with dirty jigs and river2sea since the beginning. They have multiple baits and colors of baits with both of those brands, if you want to call that sponsorship then sure their sponsored by them. Their obviously getting paid for the stuff they have worked with, otherwise their name wouldn’t be on it. Don’t really see why people complain about them only recommending baits by those two companies, watch any vid of theirs and there’s going to most likely be baits from 5+ different companies in there.

I guess does it really even matter? When watching fishing videos I always assume that they have some sort of relationship with the products they use. I may buy some baits they talk about based on the underwater action videos, but mostly I watch the videos for the techniques and where to find fish at different times of the year.

I have watched infisherman and Lindner videos for years and just know I am going to get a steady dose of Rapala baits, doesn't make the other info any less valuable. And no this isn't why I have so many Rapala baits, that problem started at a young age lol.

I watch TacticalBassin all the time, and Matt and Tim seem like good guys who give reliable information. I'm sure that in one sense of the word they probably don't have any "sponsors" in the sense of companies that pay them to use or promote their products. However...

First as a matter of general business practice, I'm sure they have a licensing agreement r the equivalent with River2Sea on their crankbaits and any other company they team with to make a certain bait. If River2Sea is referencing them in advertising, calling it the TacticalBassin crankbait or anything like that, then they have some kind of agreement where River2Sea is paying some form of compensation.

Also, all of those links in their video descriptions are referral links to TW, where they get a small percentage if someone buys the product after clicking on the link. There are lots of Youtubers, including people with a lot smaller followings than theirs, who use these. Again, it's not really a "sponsorship" but certainly a way to make additional money from their videos.

Oh great, as if I needed one more time waster, I had never seen this site before but you can bet next spare time I have, I'm checking out every Youtuber I watch on this site ?

In all seriousness, those numbers do seem a little low to me. Although, they both still have "day jobs," so I guess you would conclude from that they're not winning the lottery from the videos...at the same time it's obvious they put in a whole lot of work on the videos, and have for a long long time, so you would conclude that they are making enough from the YouTube operation to justify all of the additional work even having "day jobs."

I honestly think that if I rate the quality of information in their video's a 9.9 the second best channel is maybe an 8.  They are very good at presenting their ideas and info.

I hope they make a ton of money off the video's and product as a result of the information I get from them for absolutely free.

Matt and Tim seem like really good guys and their videos are highly instructional... but I want to fish with something other than River2Sea sometimes! ?

Haha,.......they are also big on Dirty Jigs, Jackal, I'm sure there's more!  When they talk cranks they usually have 4 or 5 brands listed.

They do make very good videos. I assume like many you tube guys they get free stuff to use and wear and that is their compensation. I think Tacklewarehouse sends them free stuff all the time, they show it and talk about it and then provide the links to order the product. A true sponsorship? you decide.

It doesn't seem to me that they are paid to promote a specific brand.

They have done collaborations where they lend their name/design lures for brands, which of course they get paid for. In my experience those products have been great, though I've never used the crankbait.

The main thing to me is that they only appear to hype lures they actually like and this seems to be brand agnostic. I don't see them pumping river2sea's lesser lures, for example.

They are California guys, which i believe are where R2S and dirty jigs are based.

It is different when someone is promoting everything a brand makes for $$. Everyone needs to make $, but take all of that with a grain of salt.

A local guy up here on TV promotes and seems to legit use %98 Berkley. But does anyone actually think a Berkeley product is best 99% of the time? Of course not.

In my opinion this is a loaded statement unless you are talking about the quality or durability of the product. If you fish at the right place at the right time with the right technique you can catch bass. Someday I'm going to get a small block of balsa wood, attach hooks to it, and I'll bet I catch multiple bass with it.

My point is I think sometimes it's easy to get caught up in "I need this bait" or "I need that bait" to catch fish when you're better off focusing on location and technique. People forget that and the Bait Monkey empties their wallets.

When I was a kid, I wanted to make my own "musky bait".  It was a 6" fat dowel rod, with the front cut at an angle to make it dive.  I painted it green, added some black stripes, and threw some hooks on it.  My dad dropped me at a tiny pond in Indiana on his way to the grocery store so I could test it out.  On my 3rd cast I hooked a 3 and a half pounder.. Haven't told that story in a while but you're comment made me think of it....

I think everyone has certain brands they gravitate towards.  I just started watching these guys so I haven't seen much- but they usually give the info you need to make correct tackle purchases without pushing certain brands.  For instance, I was watching a jig video this morning and they focused on colors and sizes.  I think it's great that they link the specific stuff at the bottom for those who want it, but if you watch the content they give you the info you need to pick out your own stuff too....

When Michael Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls was he "sponsored" by Nike?  Nope. You don't need "sponsors" in the NBA.  Did he have a contract with Nike that earned him eleventy gazillion dollars?  Yup.

You don't need a "sponsor" to have a YouTube page.  It's unfair to judge them based on their need/desire to earn some money.  They would be fools to not make a good living if they have the opportunity. Michael Jordan's basketball expertise isn't questioned because he was smart enough to make a huge fortune.  Just because they make money doesn't make them crooked or insincere but they will push their products because it's in their interest.  Would you expect to see Michael in a brand other than Nike?

No one questions @Glenn 's sincerity in helping us all become better bass fisherman and he spends an enormous amount of time doing just that.  This is a huge committment for @Glenn and it has to consume the vast majority of his time to the exclusion of all else.  But there's a reason there are name brands, etc. that we aren't supposed to mention on his website.  Generous people can still have smart business sense.

The OP stated "I'm just wondering because I want to know if the baits they are recommending are really the best ones out there."

He is literally asking if they will "push their products just because its in their interest"

Rest assured that if someone came in here and asked "Are Jordan's be the best basketball shoes out there?" plenty of people would come in and offer differing opinions.

I'm sure many of us would also advise them to steer clear of "Team Jordans" as they are an attempt to capitalize on the name and are not the same as actual "Jordans" (the ones with the number behind them).

No one here is questioning Tactical Bassin's expertise or Jordan's greatness ...

I like them alot... I'm sure they are compensated by several different sources to do what they do... kudos to them to find a to 1. Fish all the time, and all over the country and even in mexico. 2. Fish with top gear. 3. Test and review fishing gear. 4. And take the time to teach anglers to fish.

Like I said, I'm sure they have created capital from their channel and for what they bring to the world.  I'ce seen them favor certain brands over others...i.e. shimano..then fish with Daiwa and sing itsnpraises.  So it seems as subjective as they can be.  Probably my favorite non profession or non tournament anglers.  Mikey Ballz is pretty good too.

Cool story. I do like the Tactical Bassin' crew and find their videos entertaining and informative. But I don't recall ever buying a specific bait based upon anything in their videos.

What they earn isn't my business, but I hope they're well-compensated.

I would miss the zeal of Matt Allen  :smile1:

There’s always gonna be some that doubt the sincerity of someone that benefits from sales of something they recommend. There’s also plenty of people out there that genuinely believe in the what they’re selling. They are the best salespeople, in my experience.

I will say I have bought some lures based on their videos and I don’t think I’ve ever really disliked a bait that they recommended. Because of their vids I started using dirty jigs after going through countless brands and finally found some jigs I was really confident in, same with the cotton cordell spot, same with pretty much any other piece of advice I’ve taken from them.

Whatever Matt and Tim get in the way of $$$$, is Their biz. If you can do what you love and make a living at it, they are among the very few. I say more power to them.

People also buy from those they like, and these are two of the most likeable guys on YouTube.

Enjoy their videos. The information can be applied to baits of your choice. I do scroll down to see the recommendations, buy some, don’t buy others.

Curious about thoughts on Debo’s Fishing? He seems to be a fun guy and I like his unboxing videos. The stuff runs the gamut from budget to high end stuff.

Matt and Tim made enough money to sell highend homes and smart enough move to Tennessee.
