Super User Log Catcher Posted July 31, 2020 Super User Posted July 31, 2020 Guess those F150s must have been parked. That is the only way a Chevy can beat them. Any app or anything else made by GM I wouldn't trust it to work right. I know Iv'e owned Chevys. 2 1 1 Quote

The acceleration of the 5.7 Tundra would put a stock Chevy to shame. I've owned 3 Dodge trucks, 2 Fords, and a Toyota Tundra. I've driven both Ford and Chevy 3500 series vans for work. My biggest issue with GM is a slew of electrical problems. Biggest issue with Ford is cabin ergonomics. Biggest problem with Toyota is you get much less truck for the money than the big 3. Lastly, I'll never buy another Dodge. The only Dodge I had any luck with was a stripped down 5 speed 2WD (I bought used). I had one with a slew of electrical issues and another that I blew the trans with 43K on the odometer and that was after the I blew the power steering, and had electrical issues. I'll be out of the 36K bumper to bumper warranty on my F250 in the next month or so. This is the only truck that I haven't had warranty issues with from the get go.(knock on wood) (My 84 Bronco and 97 Dodge don't count because they were both bought used) Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted July 31, 2020 Super User Posted July 31, 2020 I'll give the Tundra some cred..raced one that I'm sure had a chip/tuner. Off the line it was strong, stayed with me for about 25 yards or so, then the power of my diesel came on..I was impressed. Chevy can be a hit or miss, I've known owners who have had many issues, then there were some that had very few. IMHO the engineers of GM really missed the mark on their trucks, especially the older ones. I'll admit, I've had a bunch of small things go wrong, headline falling off, electrical issues, EGR gremlins, and injectors which were replaced under warranty. Still, I love my truck..Hope you guys know, I'm just razin y'all about your Fords, ect. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 31, 2020 Super User Posted July 31, 2020 Do you guys buy trucks to drag race or to haul all your stuff around? 4 3 Quote

Mine was originally bought to be my work (construction) truck. Slowly added go fast parts to get better MPG's and for some fun. Mostly nowadays, guys pull up, and because of the sound of my diesel, they want to give it a go. I've let more cars/trucks go than I've raced. Now I haul my fishing gear and my mountain bike and that's about it. Quote

TRD offers a dealer installed supercharger that doesn't void warranty that adds I think 115hp to the stock 385hp Quote

My biggest pet peeve with any of the new trucks is the electronic acceleration and traction control. While I love the electronic locking rear differential on my Ford, I'd also like to jam on the pedal and get instant acceleration rather than a hesitation while the computer "thinks" about it's next move. In the Tundra, I would turn off the traction control in the rain because I had no control over what I wanted to do. 2 Quote

To much of the functions these days are computer controlled, that's 1 reason why I haven't bought a newer truck. Miss the old days when there were no computers on cars/trucks. 1 Quote

Yeah, I hate the computers in my new truck too. Except for the one that gives me 40% better gas mileage than my old truck. And, the one that lets me see my trailer hitch so hooking up my boat is so easy. And, the one that lets me use the navigation on my phone instead of paying Ford thousands to use theirs. I also like the one that lets me listen to all the songs on my phone through the stereo. Oh, and the one that automatically applies the brakes for me to keep me from having an accident. And the one that turns the high beams on and off automatically isn’t bad either. 1 Quote

Those days are long gone my friend. Now you need a laptop to tune. It's been many years and a few grey hairs since I lifted an engine, but I'd like to give a shot again before I report to the last roll call. I've got free access to a shop and lifts, I just need someone who knows what the heck they're doing to assist. I know I can tear down and rebuild an engine, I'd just need help with the software and tuning. Check out what these guys did with this 6.2, skip to 12:27 if you don't want to watch the build. Quote

DanielG Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 My New vehicle history since I was 22 yrs old... I live in Maine... I am stupid easy on vehicles....Most of them V8's, a couple of 6's 1973 Chevy chevelle- Okay, back then you had to keep at them to make them run smooth 139 miles to rust out 1980 Chevy Caprice classic.... Nice car, a bit luxury. The engine ran so rough after 50k. Mechanics couldn't smooth it out, 130k miles to trade in after I got fed up. 1990 Chevy extended cab pickup... The white paint fell off... in dinner plate sized pieces after a few years. Engine cracked block (factory defect) Put in a rebuilt at 90k.... lasted 140k 2000 Chevy Tahoe... not great but the best chevy I've owned. Lasted 149k till rust. 2003 chevy silverado Damned piece of sh-t. coroded brakes/rotors every 20k, Hubs, bearings. I put 10k in this thing to keep it going. Rusted out frame in 84k miles. Uninspectable/unrepairable. I had to get rid of it. What a nightmare and loss. 2015 Ford f150 xlt V8. I finally decided to leave the GM bandwagon. First aluminum body one. 84k on it now. I've replace a parking brake cable. Just maintenance. Brakes register as about 50% worn so far. Tires will make it to 90-95k. NO rust spots on the frame at all. None... Unheard of in Maine. I get underneath once and awhile just to see if it's actually true. And it's appointed and drives as if I was in my living room. I finally hit one to feel good about. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 1, 2020 Super User Posted August 1, 2020 Only new vehicle I ever bought was a 1998 Chevy WT-1500. Had the 4.3 Vortec and a 5-speed manual. Friend borrowed it one weekend to do some moving and when she brought it back commented, 'That thing is quicker off the line than my CRX!' When the WT got totaled in an accident in late 2015 (other driver took the blame at the scene) used the insurance money and a loan from my dad to get my current ride - a 2001 Silverado LS...the one in my cover photo on my profile page. I was a Mopar guy until the WT, now I'm a Chevy fan. Quote
Guitarfish Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 I've driven Ford vans for my business since 1989. Have never had a major repair. Oil changes, trans service and tires. They just go and go. I will say Ford vans (2006) have door cable issues. One day they just stop working. (I fixed it). And my passenger side door lock is kinda weird, only locks occasionally when you press the key fob. I always have to visually check that it actually went down. I had a 1996 Silverado that was a nice truck, but I always felt I was accelerating slower than everyone else unless I floored it. Now my boat towing ride is a Toyota Sequoia. Quote
Super User Koz Posted August 1, 2020 Super User Posted August 1, 2020 If my Genesis Coupe was connected to an app that notified me every time there was hard acceleration I'd get more notifications than a 12 year old girl when the latest K=Pop album was released. 5 Quote
