waymont Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 I recently bought a Daiwa dock skipping rod at a local shop. I was also buying a Procyon spinning rod for a friend at the same time (by the way it's pretty d**n nice for $70). When I was at the counter I asked the salesman if I could get a break since I was buying two rods, and he said without taking a breath the best he could do 15% off. I was surprised it was such a good discount. Do you guys ever ask for discounts at local shops? 1 Quote
Heartland Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 I have a great relationship with our local tackle shop, I have received many deals and discounts from them over the years, a majority of the time without any action on my part. They are a little higher on some of the baits I use regularly and I don't mind paying it to help a small local business, what's great is that as mentioned they often take care of me on other things. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted July 30, 2020 Super User Posted July 30, 2020 I fish a lot of St. Croix Rods. I’ve gotten a few breaks but for the most part they sell MSRP. You pay list but get a free tshirt, hat or buff. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 30, 2020 Super User Posted July 30, 2020 I have a guy that is sort of local that will get me Loomis rods at a discount. Not sure how he does it but I think I am getting what he calls the "Professional's Discount". Not a pro for sure but I appreciate the idea and the good prices. 1 Quote

I absolutely love helping my local shop like that. Their prices on tackle is only pennies on the dollar more expensive than Walmart plus they sale Used older reels for really good prices. For example, I picked up two older Abu round reels (5000D series) in pretty great shape for $50 a piece a couple months ago. Those will be my catfish rigs. I haven’t pushed for a discount on anything as they normally surprise me with their prices already especially when they have a huge tote of clearance prices soft plastics mostly a dollar a bag or so of YUM and Missile baits. They don’t really have the hugest selection of stuff as they are a small setup, but they are good people and always love to conversate especially at the gun counter. 1 Quote
